Nostalrius Begins - Vanilla WoW

Having a lot of fun with this, it really is interesting to play the game as it used to be.

What I've found most enjoyable is the social side though. With all the lfg and lfr stuff I found most people only bothered talking when crap hit the fan and it was time to assign blame. The social side of this is what really takes me back to what (for me anyway) old WoW was about.
People have to interact to do elite quest and form dungeon groups and so far I've encountered a bunch of cool, friendly and helpful players. Not sure how long I'll play for but I am loving this so far :D

Exactly this! Current WoW feels so... Empty.

This, I'm not even level 10 and I've had multiple groups to do quests that are a bit tough. Everyone is chatty. It's just... Awesome :D

I'm in Stranglethorn now, it's crazy!

agnes- sent you some gold mate.

I'm Horde! But others may be Alliance!

Top man, thanks! I'll return the favor once I've setup my AH char and sold some mats.

I think I've decided that I'm avoiding it for my other characters! Doing it just with my priest was a pain in a group of two; sod doing it with my warrior and mage too! If need be I'll grind those 8 or so levels it covers on mobs haha!

My Brother, being the evil sod that he is used to love camping on a rogue in Westfall and killing that npc just before the escort quest could finish. Evil.

It is great fun to be able to replay this!

I've only briefly played a horde character, but will roll an alliance and level up.

Despite my previous negativity I think I may give this a go. If I get to tank through deadmines then I'll be happy. I don't think I'll ever have the time to level to 60 in vanilla though. :p

So are the majority of you on the Alliance side?

Horde I think, I am, I got my hunter to 10, and just don't feel it, so I've re rolled an undead Rogue. MUCH more fun :D

How long before Blizzard kick off and try to get it shut down?

Old WOW was better though. The game became far to easy and "streamlined" (in the bad way) after the 2nd expansion.

They will never do such a thing. Private servers have been around for AGES!!!

This one is just great in the sense that they have stuck to vanilla, including the xp rate etc. No gimmicks

They have, but at one point they did fight them. Especially when they became popular and started "stealing" customers.

Vanilla WoW was never a 'challenge', and the hardest part of raiding was finding and keeping 40 people together

Few "destroyer of guilds" encounters in there though, either overtuned to the point of stupidity or the behavior they encouraged between larger guilds

C'thun was notably overtuned and bugged initially, established guilds were falling through the floor trying to beat it
4 horseman encounters design/mechanics meant tanks being swapped around like prison wives.

Some content as you say was trivial but then the point of that was to get a larger demographic (other than the 5%) through the door.

Everyone saying the game is too easy now clearly hasn't even tried Mythic raiding.

As above there were some buggy/overtuned problems in vanilla but a good 40 man team had no where near as many wipes as guilds have on Archimonde Mythic or even Blackhand.

Raiding is great in retail, but every other aspect of the game has been dumbed down or solo-ized, things like buffing each other as you go passed, recognising people on the realm, knowing who is who, which the good tanks in /2 are and which the morons are. The epic quest chains that take you from Azshara to the Blasted Lands hitting every zone as you go for a Blue item, the whole ideology of the company then.

Don't get me wrong, I still love WoW to this day, even if WoD has made me quit for now, but there's nothing like a trip down memory lane.

It's just Vanilla with TBC being introducted eventually

Lost interest.

Vanilla WoW = Vast open world where you will bump into friends and enemies anywhere at any time, a true adventure

Post Vanilla WoW = Central lobby system where everyone stands around an NPC all day

Getting the Whirlwind Axe from the warrior quest is basically proving to be an impossible task to solo since STV is essentially Ganktown. I'll happily PvP you lot once you let me get my damn axe :P

Word is they'll be opening TBC on a separate server when the time comes and importing everything over - so you can stay on Vanilla if you want.

What's everyone's names/level/faction?
