NR200 Owner's Thread

I used some keyboard's o-rings to attenuate the vibration as you mentioned: https://imgur.com/abkA0pk

Mine are Arctic P12s and they resonate at a few rpm ranges. I tested their whole operative range and then made a custom fan curve where they just skipped those rpm ranges and ended up with 3 "states", low, medium and max rpms (which is actually 94% as they resonate if I go higher than that), this depends on the max temp between GPU and CPU.

These Arctic fans have fantastic value, their only downside is this extra noise at certain speeds.

I see everyone seems to be going for the Scythe Mugen 5 or the Scythe Fuma 2 in there builds.. does no one like the Noctua NH-U12A for this case then

U12-A only fits with the vented panels, while Mugen 5 and Fuma 2 will (in some cases) fit with the glass. Plus price, as already stated.

Ah yes, your reddit post I think was what led me down this path. I don't have a mech keyboard, so no tiny o-rings laying around. I do have a prusa 3d printer and TPU material so closest I could do to test it. Part of me still thinks it a fan thing and not an interface issue, as I still hear the 'hum' or coil whine sometimes.

Here is a quick pic of the silicon/tpu washer installed. They are 2mm thick. Not nearly as soft as I would like, but definitely better than a hard plastic to metal interface.

Optimum Tech totally talks about the hum of the P12's and this is similar to the hum I get with the CM's around 1k rpm.

The New Sickleflow fans now have a pad in the screw corners. You are correct the P12 does not. The resonance is likely a fan motor issue as some others have noticed it at around the 1000 RPM range. I am running all my case fans at 900 RPM and have not noticed it. Optimum noted that it vanished at about 1200 RPM.

Yeah I noticed that when I looked up CM SickleFlow by itself, the new ones have the pad. But after some more fan testing today, I would have to agree that it is motor noise. I put my Cryorig 120mm fan on the top and it did not make any noise throughout the entire fan speed range. But the CM's the minute I go over 1000rpm...motor noise galore.

So currently running the CM fans at ~900rpm unless the system gets >70c to which they jump to ~1400rpm. Seems like I'll have to invest in some fans. At least (2) 25mm ones for the top. Maybe just get that P12 5-pack and call it a day...or a pair of Noctuas for that premium performance haha.

You may have got unlucky. My CM fans sound just about as good as my noctua fans at full rpm. They don't have the same noise of course, and the notuas as better, but the CM fans I have are basically inaudible at the rpm I use them at.

If the cases airflow is setup right you should be okay at 900 static. If you need more play with the fan speeds, checking at every 100 or so RPM, most of the time that motor noise is in a very narrow band.

Thank you for this as i see what you mean after reading all the posts "took a while" will have to hunt for the fuma 2 then as be great if can use the glass panel with the asus b550 board

Yeah I feel like I should find the RPM where they dont hum and just leave it at that RPM. So far 1000rpm seems to be the max before I start getting the hum.

Just ran Heaven benchmark for 20 minutes, CPU 46°C and GPU 77°c. Fan avg was 1100rpm...mild hum. Do fans have a break-in period? LOL.

Eyeing the Arctic P12's 5-pack or maybe the Scythe Kaze Flex (2).

Also did anyone see that Razer Tomahawk case? Looks similar layout to the NR200P except you can put a AIO at the top. I didnt check for volume though of the case.

To me the Tomahawk looks more like a Lian Li TU150 without the handle and a grilled top.

Its quite a bit bigger than the NR200 and the back side glass panel to me is a turn off. Plus double the cost...

Richard was looking at the image you posted above, the brackets are not screwed it, could this be the vibration?

Sorry, had to laugh today.
Idle GPU temp is 22c (my office is in the garage and it's not warm today). Still a result though. Love the NR200P.

I have Chromax fans on my AIO, they are lovely

Everyone should get 2 x a12x25pwm by Noctua, it's a whole new universe compared to sickleflow fans. I run two noctuas at 1500rpm at top exhaust and they are inaudible

Agreed. Stupidly expensive but the amount of air they push while being silent is ridiculous.

Yeah just from a budget stand point (2) of those fans are basically HALF the costs of the NR200P. Though if they last me several builds...and provide peace of mind/silence...might be worth it than rolling the dice? The Arctic P12s seem like a solid option due to their 10 year warranty but you do have to avoid that 1k rpm range but nothing a fan curve can't fix.

Also even though I can't see the top exhaust fans in my case from where I sit...I want all my components to be black/grey/stealth...and that noctua brown just isnt ideal. Sure I can't see them from the side, but I'd see from above thru the grill. Could wait for the chromax release in Q1 2021...but god knows they'll be sold out unless they actually build up a stock of them.

Chromax fans are available currently. Just not all models on OCUK right now.
Certainly I bought mine earlier this year (some F12 ones for my AIO). They are expensive, sure, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The P12s are always recommended on here too, no experience of them personally.

Yes, indeed you do. All the more reason to pay well for things that will play for a long time.
I came from Corsair fans to Noctua, and the difference is night and day.

The CM fans (at least mine) really are pretty much inaudible though.

I was going to replace them with some S12a chromax fans, but spinning the CM fans up to full RPM (1830 by the corsair icue software) puts them at about 35dba (as measured on my phone by my ear). My noctuas go to 1500 RPM at full chat and using the same phone come in at about 28dba. Not sure where the P12s would sit by the same measure, but it's clear (to me anyway) that the Noctua fans are much quieter, but the standard CM fans are not dreadful.

I have the CM fans going to a max of 1300rpm based on CPU temp, and tbh they never get near that speed, so my baseline dba is around 25dba.

Of course if I could just get rid of the periodic pump chatter from my AIO, I would be happier, but I don't want to think about AIO rad/pump heights etc and have to go full GamersNexus on it....
