Interesting that it has a lower maxmimum voltage. I always undervolt my cards anyway, but I assume overclockers won't be pleased.
Presumably the on die voltage regulator they're now enabling is a bit more fragile than the off-die one, but also slightly more efficient. Think you're right about overclockers, if there are many of them on a 4090.

Seems like smooth gameplay at 4K in the latest games is a distant dream for about 95% of PC gamers.

It looks a bit desperate for the RX 7900XT when they have to include enabling FSR in the spec.

At least they didn't bother specifying 30 FPS requirements above 720p, no one wants that.

That's... doable, but so poorly optimised.

The 7900 XT at least gets a mention at 4K. I would bet even the 4080 will need FSR.

'Discount' 4080 spotted here in Aus at approx 970 quid for a zotac trinity.
(Take off 10% GST and add 20% VAT back on that's equivalent to about 1050 quid).

It's not much but it does seem like small price drops might be emerging...

Now if only I had $1750 to spare ... I'd put it into the solar panel savings pot, I'm still good with my 2080Ti for now :D

Those specs are for the supposedly 'best looking' 60fps at 4K but at the same time we need to question how much of that is lazy/poor coding/optimisation or are the games actually that graphically impressive that they need that same grunt to make the games looks stunning. Personally I'm edging more towards the former than the later in most cases.

Older high end rigs could likely lower settings from ultra but it's not exactly an ideal situation where a last gen card marketed in many ways as a 4K card is going to struggle.

Doesn't matter much to me, as hardware can either keep up, or it can't. I don't wanna buy a card that can't at least handle 1440p (1% lows of 60 FPS or more) in every game available when I buy. Right now, that would mean buying an RTX 3080 or better.

I'd also consider a card from AMD, even if it struggles when ray tracing is enabled. 1440p upscaled to 4K is achievable with a minimal performance hit, and both companies can do this through driver support (e.g. RSR).

We're seeing games in development now that recommend a RTX 3080, for smooth gameplay at 1440p:

Wisely, this company doesn't give a recommendation for 4K native. The power requirements for steady gameplay at 4K on today's cards can be pretty intense.

5900X is an odd choice for 4K ultra, especially when they recommend a 12600k as an alternative which only has 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency ones vs 5900x which has 12 full fat cores.
