I think the more appropriate analogy would be one guy stole 5 wallets and another guy stole 6, is the guy that stole 5 any less of a criminal?

I have to assume he will get a lesser sentence, yeah. In this forum one guy gets a slap in the wrist and the other one jail time

It's not like I disagree with what you are saying, but we have to admit this forum is very invested in hating nvidia and intel.

I think most people don't like any of them at the minute because they are all scamming consumers.

I’ll have to come clean I got my 7900xt from elsewhere and had received a nice £80 discount (off £750 list price) so actually paid £670 which I think is a steal for the performance I got. (50% cost of a 4080 but nearly all the rasterisation performance)

Both are bad relative to what we would have gotten historically. There are many potential reasons for this. I think if anything we're not blaming Apple enough for hoovering up a huge percentage of TSMC's capacity on 5nm and 3nm. But I wouldn't be shocked if AMD and Nvidia were found to be engaging in collusion/price fixing. The whole $100 memory upsell on the 4060 ti is just nakedly greedy though and is probably an indication of the margins on the rest of their products.

It's a shame as the 4060 TI 16gb would have been a fantastic card but 500 is too much.

Well, 3090 was poorly priced to begin with.

3080 was $700, 4090 is 86% faster at $1600 aka about 129% more money. Not a good deal.

Maybe it looked good compared to 4080, because 4080 it was only 49% faster for 71% more money vs 3080, while 4090 vs 3090 was 63% faster for only 7%more money, but is a skewed comparison, because, as I've mentioned before, 3090 was a bad deal...
Of course, the elephant in the room, extra vRAM and DLSS3 which gives/will give extra performance on top for both compared to 3080, so it will sweeten the deal even more for 4080.

Right now, cheapest 4080 from where I usually buy is about 1260 euros. Cheapest 4090 is 1831 euros. 45% more money for about 25-30% more performance. Not really a great deal. Then add on top the possible need of a new PSU/case, a lot more heat and power used which you may cause a free sauna or the need for A/C etc.

So depends what your point of comparison is and how good is in itself. 3090 isn't great.

People who were already comfortable with paying $1.5k + got a deal this time, people who were comfortable with paying $700 didn't.

When the 16gb comes out I wonder how high the custom boards will be, 4070 prices as some of the 8gb oc models are way past the £400 mark? Seems blizzard to price a lower tier above the next tier.

True, if coming from a 3080 there isn't a terrific value in 4070ti.

But if you had money for a 3090 and made the smart move with a 3080 and kept $800, now adding those, plus what you'd get for a 3080sh, maybe a bit more and you'd get a 4080 which should be fine if you're happy with the performance. Keep the difference to 4090 towards a future buy.

I think I got a decent uplift (>200fps in MW2, >150fps in Horizon Zero Dawn, 110FPS on ultra TLOU all at 1440p) and a cracking deal for £670.
