The obvious has only just occurred to me that they now have a 16GB card in the lineup below the 4070 and the 4070Ti. Which should have been 16GB cards, especially the latter. What a mess.

It's not like they don't know. They just do what they think they can get away with. Can't see the 5070 having less than 16GB for example.
If they want anything to sell in the future they will have to sell it below 1k.
Investors will just go elsewhere otherwise.

This is what I would have thought (especially since actual performance is supposedly a big part of Nvidia's value whereas with apple the vague perception of OK performance appears to be enough) but the 4060 ti 16GB with its outlandish markup feels like it's leaning in that direction.
Not yet, may be a few days as reviewers will have to purchase the card and then benchmark and test it.
£200 more for a custom that'll give a few percent better performance as best. Crazy! Not to mention the crazy base price to begin with.
