NVIDIA 4000 Series

Doesn’t help that EVGA are gone, they made some lovely cards.
Not just me then? I have a GTX 660 2GB that was kindly donated to me awhile ago from a forum member as a temp card to play CS:GO whilst awaiting gpu stock on a new build, anyways TLDR it's built like a tank and still lives on in 1 of my builds in a SFF as a Linux Mint tv rig, I was surprised to see they'd gone/the hate about them being poorly made etc on Reddit etc? I mean this 660 must be what 12 years old now? The fan is only just starting to make a slight bearing noise, but it might just be in general the noise it makes - I wouldn't know having not had it from new, but yeah repasted it the other day as it's done me a solid all this time.

Crazy how people will slate a brand like EVGA yet praise junk like Powercolor, which aren't cheap price wise yet are build wise and have the highest failure rate according to the RMA dept from both ocuk and scan (as I asked which brand would they recommend avoiding based on RMA's when inquiring about RMA's/failure rates back in July this year) I had a RX580 8gb by Powercolor and it was never stable unless i power limited it and underclocked it, then it recently decided to smell like electrical fire and then died. When I took it apart it didn't even have a copper heatsink - my Thermalright PA120SE is silver but is actually copper underneath the coating and the mounting points are still showing copper, this Powercolor however wasn't. Junk!

A brand I do hear nothing but trouble with, and constantly dying shortly after being brand new, are XFX Merc's.

Oh has everyone seen this?

Agree on the FE cards, I’ve had a 3060 Ti, 3070 and both remained very quiet whilst under load. I had a 3090 FE also and felt very premium.. monster of a card.. I’ve also had MSI gaming X trio 2080 Ti, suprim 3090 and now gaming X trio 4070 Ti.. the noise levels were/are great.. noise is very important to me.. with the games I play 4070 Ti holds a locked 60fps at 4k very rarely uses 100% GPU and even when it uses all of its power temps don’t break mid 70s whilst at 38% fan so inauidable whilst my H150I Elite cappellix custom fan curve has the fans switched off upto 60 degrees.. idle temps obviously nowhere near that and gaming temps barely break that temp

I like the rigidity of FE cards, they don't need a stand to stop them sagging, but you don't get dual VBIOS on them so no quiet FAN mode like you get on AIB cards. I also find them quieter as a result especially for gaming on a silent build. So for me I will stick to Zotac cards from now on, especially with 5 years warranty.

I can check when I get home if you still need an answer? Can't remember what I did when I installed it!
No worries, installed it now. I removed the 3rd cover and left the 4th in place so not to have a gap in the rear of the PC. The 4090 Strix is a great card and the performance is unreal, but jeepers it’s massive.

I use a support on my 4090 FE. I know that the FE is a big strong boy, however for the sake of few quid I prefer to guarantee it is rock-solid safe. Otherwise, there remains a lot of weight to balance on that PCIE slot. IMO, all 4080/4090's should come with a support bracket. 2kg+ is just too-much weight, and sag is the main cause for PCB cracks and lifted VRAM failures. Not wearing a support bracket is akin to having sex without a condom. You may or may not get away with it.

edit: This is what happens to a 4090 PCB when a support bracket is either not used or fitted securely. I purchased this "Excellent Refurbished" MSI Suprim X 4090 from a competitor. It got returned immediately as the PCB is clearly warped due to sag around the PCIE slot. To the naked-eye it looked far worse. I then bit the bullet and purchased a new 4090 FE, and added a strong/fixed support bracket.

RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti this month. 4070 also making a decent gain.

4080 and 4090 sales dried up. Same for the 7900 XTX. I think the initial high end purchases this generation have finished. Probably disappointing for Nvidia and AMD.

Most of that you'd get the same results with 120FPS/120Hz w/ G-Sync without needing Reflex, though removing render queue latency is nice. Although there is actually a point where a little bit of latency actually is useful as a reference point in a kind of tactile way, going to extremes of low latency sometimes can actually be detrimental.

Nah that only happens once you get down to negative latency, you know like Stadia did....

Like those linear gaming keyboards with almost zero travel distance and actuation force

The latency is just too low, I like me a high latency good old blue keys, it's more tactile as you say

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs. GeForce RTX 4080, FSR vs. DLSS / Ray Tracing Benchmarks

I thought their figures seemed very of regarding RT, as in too small of a gap, glad I ain't the only one who thought that:

Obviously different baseline etc. but still hubs results seem to have a smaller gap to other tech press?

As it is, nothing new really though, if you want/care for RT and upscaling etc. there is only one choice still and if all you care for is raster and cheaper product then there is only one choice there.

As I thought. Would not take long for ASIC's. Why let yourself get milked by greedy Jensen?

Nvidia can maybe enjoy crazy AI profits for a gen or two more and then hopefully we can get some normality again.
