NVIDIA 4000 Series

The restrictions are based on performance thresholds per commerce control list category 3. Specifically 3A090 which controls the export of ICs that have memory bandwidth exceeding 600Gbyte/s and processing exceeding 4800Tops (600T iops 8bit, 300T flops 16bit)

It's the combination of tensor cores (660T iops for 4090) and ram bandwidth which are only just tripping it into the export restriction, which is why lower tier cards and AMD aren't currently affected.

Not sure how this will affect things in the long term, it may well impact the ability of Nvidia to release consumer cards which are much faster than 4090.

Even 10% faster would be laughable lol, let alone 5% - For a Super I'd expect 15-20% minimum gains vs the non super version.

Edit* At the same time Nvidia can't allow the 4080 Super to get too close to the 4090 because then nobody would bother with a 4090 and save £300 and get the 4080S so either way it's gonna be a small bump tops no doubt.
You say that but last gen Nvidia had a 3080, 3080 12gb, 3080ti and a 3090 all within 10-15% of each other despite a price range of up to $800.

Fully aware of that and that was Nvidia's big mistake because it led to so much faff and online flack. It's clear they are keeping the 4090 so far above anything else this time round having learned from that mistake of the 30 series.

Yup no way they'll repeat the mistake of the 3080 to 3090 difference where sometimes, it was even less than 5% of a difference, at least not until nextgen where I suspect they'll have the 5080 matching a 4090 for the price of £1000, which will look like a bargain but not really.....

All in all, the 4090 is STILL the only sensible option when looking at gpus above £700, madness.

Ordered one yet? Or you waiting for them to go eol? Lol

I think Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 are the only games to truly stress test my 4090 at 5120x1440, to the point where I need DLSS or have a noticeable drop in performance.

The fact I find myself going through a catalogue of older games for the most part now, does make me wonder whether I could have gone with a 4080 or something, but I wanted all the horsepower available to throw at any games coming out. I'll just have to make sure I have enough saved to invest in an upgrade when I sell this one :) so I can keep up with any major advancements made, (I may also consider going 4K 240hz at 16:9 if the right monitor drops)

The 30 series was Nvidia’s best selling line up ever even before mining kicked off so it wasn’t really a mistake, you look at ADA and they are only grossing 1/3 of what Ampere bought in and that’s with the cards costing twice as much at the MSRP.

That's because only one card in Ada makes sense, and it's priced out of reach of 90% of gamers :p The rest are overpriced for their performance, whereas at least at the time, Ampere cards were very high performers, even the 3080 10GB was really good until the 3080 Ti came along and then the 3080 12GB, whilst the 3060 series dominated the lower tiers.

And now with Ada, those same tier holders are holding onto the 3060 series for as long as possible it seems.

Nvidia’s current pricing strategy is only working because they are making a fortune with AI so it distracts from gaming sales being well down on where they should be especially now with the full lineup out.

They only priced the cards stupidly initially so to sell off ampere stock and would have then corrected prices but the AI situation has meant they have just left them there as they are making the money elsewhere.

My 3080 Ti is still doing fine. Only thing I have missed out on is playing Cyberpunk using PT and as PT is broken anyway it did not matter

Same, I opted for just Psycho RT and since the 4070 gets good frames with standard DLSS on that, framegen feels very good at 80-100fps. With PT, the lag would be noticeable I reckon as native framerate would be too low. I was sceptical at first but FG is definitely usable.

Around 190W power draw and 56C tops so not scoffing at the performance, I can live without PT:P

Can get a few extra frames over that as well since +1000mhz on memory and +125mhz on the core has been completely stable so far with 1C of extra temp but haven't tried CP with that yet:P
