NVIDIA 4000 Series

I'm not sure people realise just how big the shoes are the 5080 would have to fill.

Joxeon says it will be 5% faster than the 4090.

If I take a look at some demanding RT games, like Control at 4k max RT, to beat the 4090 by 5%, the 5080 needs to be 60% faster than the 4080.

Another demanding game, Cyberpunk. 5080 would need to be 51% faster than the 4080 to beat the 4090.

Not sure if confused again grim, but you are saying the 4090 is over 50% better than a 4080? :p:cry:

Erm...

Well tbh you can't go by the relative averages in there, probably cases where the 4090 is held back more by the CPU than the 4080 is. And TPU used a 5800X in the initial reviews which is a bit of a fail imo :p

Still I think the 5080 should be around 4090 performance, if it is not then it best be cheap! :p

But I provided a link directly to Cyberpunk which is the game he mentioned. I doubt the bottleneck is that big to make up the huge difference in what he is talking about.

Read my post again, I specifically talk about 4k RT max performance, and what do you do... post rasterisation. You sure you're not an AMD GPU owner?

I woke up to take a leak. Made the mistake of picking up my phone and reading your post. **** happens :p

Regardless, still not 50%

I never said it was, once again go read my post. I responded to someone saying the 5080 will be 5% faster than the 4090. So I looked at a 4090 bench on tpu for 4k Cyber maxed out with RT and it showed 42fps for the 4090 and 29 for the 4080 and 42/29 =1.44 so 4090 was 44% faster in this benchmark, but the guy said the 5080 is 5% faster than 4090; so 42fps * 1.05 = 44 and now 44/29 = 1.51, meaning in this bench if the 5080 is 5% faster than a 4090 then it's 51% faster than the 4080

Maybe try sleeping more and stop trying to add your 2 cents to posts that had nothing to do with you

Or maybe go read what you wrote. In the post I quoted I even bolded it.

Those are your words:

:D

How many would buy an RTX 5080 that offered RTX 4090 beating performance circa 10% ~ 15% at a lower power consumption and better temps, a few new technology bits, i.e variants of DLSS etc. Maybe paired with 20GB of VRAM at £1199.99? I'm betting a ton of people would buy it! Nvidia are printing money, and will continue to do so imo..

I think £1399 and the 5090 at £1799

Loads would if it did that. Not me however. If 5080 got that performance I would be happy with a 5070 then.

Right now I do not need the extra performance in almost anything. I mean sure if I wanted to play Cyberpunk again the extra fps would be good. But no plans of that, too many other games to play and they all run smoothly on what I have.

If next gen is stupid prices I honestly might keep what I have and skip a gen and only buy if the opportunity presents itself at a somewhat sane price. What's the worse case? Dropping from Ultra to high settings? Not a huge deal these days unless you are into taking lots of pictures and making comparisons :p

5070 Ti will match a 4090 and maybe 5% faster.

5080 5% faster than a 4090 people are dreaming, it will be a wasted generation then again and for sure Nvidia will try its rubbish again at $1200-$1250 for the 5080 and until it doesn't sell then will be a 5080 super at $1000 again. 5080 will probably be 25-30% faster than a 4090, if not it means 5090 will not have a 50%-60% increase... but new rtx gimmicks may allow nvidia to cry 2x 4x 6x faster for their new DLSS or RTX feature to come..

We have to wait and see with Nvidia as they are getting more and more greedy with prices and the hardware getting more and more cut down or tiers being moved around and die sizes. We can all guess what it will be or not as people did with the 40 series and expected a 4080 for £650-£700 back then too  .... Remember the shock for some then ? So guessing with Nvidia is like using a hose in the rain.... (U know what I mean)...

5090 needs to come with more than 24GB and if they have half a brain bring back NVLINK or pros will not buy them as they will probably only end up with 36GB max not 48GB.. and people needing more VRAM than 36GB will be sticking to their 3090/Ti in NVLINK for 48GB..

Anyways we will see but have a feeling some of us will be rolling round laughing on the floor with some of their tiers, unless AMD or Intel have GPUs to fill the main gaming market range, if not well they really are trying to kill pc gaming market.

No ones going to spend £1400 on a 2nd tier gpu, Nvidia dropping the 4080S at £959 shows even £1200 was far to much and sales figures were not what they had hoped.

The only way people would pay that is if they priced the 5090 ridiculously high at like £2500-3000 then most of those sales would be from 5090 buyers who had been priced out and stepping down a tier, that’s not Nvidia’s strategy as they want to encourage people to step up a tier as it means more profit for them.

The 7900XTX launch actually helped 4080 sales, I think the 7900XTX HW unboxed review said if your going to spend this much then get the 4080 instead.

True. And then you got AMD boys shamelessly saying AMD offer value or some crap like that. No mate. They provide premium products for the niche :p

Had AMD released it at £699 I would have got one straight away. That is what it should have been priced it imo.
