NVIDIA 4000 Series

I had one before, sold it for a 7900xtx which I actually ended up liking a lot (much better value as I don't really care for ray tracing in most games) but in some it adds a lot to the experience (like 4 games lol)

main reason is to see how many games I am playing can hit 480hz or get close with the 4090 to gauge if I need the 5090 or not

I got the 4090 for £1010 2nd hand ;) so not as bad as it initially looks
That's a really good price! I actually think that if you do go for the 5090, you might just make your money back on the 4090 or even be a few quid up on the deal.

Monster card though, you'll need to carefully study those 5090 benchies.

Yeah unfortunately the data for my use case is all over the place and very system dependent at times,

I'm hoping any games I can hit 330-360 fps in at least, will be able to hit 480hz natively (ideally don't want to use any form of frame gen) for online games I'll be playing if I don't have to, or it's not worth the upgrade to a 5090, and I can probably just sell the 4090 and wait for amd's offerings again. And just stick to the games I know support it going forward.

In an ideal world the 5090 opens up a few more modern games for me to play at native 480hz.

Damn it! Why couldn't you get it £10.01 cheaper so I could lmao at mrk!

Since the 5080 is 16gb vram I struggle to see how the 4090 value will reduce that much, if at all. Since 3090/4090 fit the 24gb vram market for LLMthusiasts

So since myself @andy85wsm and @tiberuk were talking about the Zotac 4070 Ti Super Solid. I just very briefly had a look at afterburner to see what the card would do while running Solar Bay on a loop (only at 1440p mind). With the power limet pushed to its maximum of 110% and the fans cranked up the memory was sitting fine at +1800 and the GPU at +250. Seems a bit mad compared to what I've seen people get but as I said, I only did it briefly to see what it would crap out at and I didn't get there. Only thing I can think is that the piddly 1440p that it's running at might have something to do with it but the GPU usage was sitting pinned at 97%. Maybe a different test would show it up.

So with the fan cranked to 100 and 110% power limit, stock it wantd to sit at 2790 and 10500. With the +250 and +1800 it sat happily at 2985 and 12300. So the GPU is only going 195 further than at stock with the ram boosted at the same time due to the power limit. With the memory dropped back to 0 the GPU pinned at 3045. at +260 it hit 3060 but dropped to 3030 as the temp hit 67c or so. Highest I saw was 75 and that's with half my case fans still not running after rearranging the WC loop for the CPU just to squeeze the card in.

I'd not bother running it like this as for the games I play it's utterly not worth it, but its interesting to see.

Interesting post, though I did chuckle at 'Only at 1140p' I'm upgrading from a Vega 56 and 2600x and am hyped for 1440p!

Looking forward to trying it one of these days. I never did see any other TI Super go below the £698 price on Black friday (though a couple of non- Zotac cards came down to about 730) and the same card is between £720 - £760 now depending on where you shop so the Black Friday price was a few quid off, but not a crazy deal

The best I can afford right now is a 4070 super. Don't really want to wait for the 5000 series which I think will be overpriced with very little gains. Will the 12gb vram trip me up down the line at 1440p?

We cant possibly comment on this from experience. The point about 5060Ti type cards does look like another 6 months away but you also want to see what features nvidia are selling you this gen before committing.

Honesly I'd been humming and ahhing about getting a new GPU, or more likely something used. Since I'm long past the days of upgrading regularly I wanted something that should last. When I saw that and with 3 years 0% it was a no brainer for me. Cost more than I could have afforded buying a used GPU on here but since it's a monthly payment it's no problem.

I have still to actually boot a game since I've been so busy doing other stuff!

My Zotac is now selling new for just over £2800 on ebay and Amazon. LOLMAO. Used examples in what appear to be good state are going for ~£1800.

Mad.

I personally wouldn't be dropping circa £550 on a GPU with 12GB VRAM going into 2025 and looking to keep it possibly for 3 years.

16GB or go home for me.

I personally can't wait to see the 5070 (Standard) launch with its 12GB VRAM and how Nvidia price that up at.

Couldn't justify the extra 300 quid for 4gb extra vram and fairly minimal performance gains. 3 years? Jesus christ. Think I'll be ok if I drop a few settings no?

Eugh this zotac 70TSS has a real bright led name plate facing the case window. Can't turn it down or off so I pulled one of the little 4 pin connectors. Light off. Huzzah. Also 1 fan off. Fml. Will probe it later and de pin the offending wire.

The need for everything in the case to be lit up like a Christmas tree remains beyond me.

I finally booted game. Carrying on with Fallen Order. Having it nearly pinned at 144 fps with everything on "make eyes bleed" and at 3440x1440 is quite nice.
