NVIDIA 4000 Series

No missing out this time round, mining is dead, stock will be plentiful, most people already have a 30 series so no rush to go out and get a 40 series. For all intents and purposes I can see 40xx staying on the shelves for a while as opposed to flying off the shelves.

Would be surprised if the FE cards have the wait lists we saw from 30x for example, instead anyone wanting FE should be able to get one any time they please at RRP.

There has rarely been a GPU release like that going way back, i don't see it starting with the 40 series ;)

Believe it when I see it. When nvidia dropped the ball on the 3000 series. Everyone harped on that AMD would plug the gap for an easy win. Yet, there release was even worse than nvidia.

You seem to be concentrating on the GPU being the most important part, or the only bit that matters to a professional who requires a GPU in their system, not everyone one who is a professional is doing something with AI or GPU only compute and will require it to be suitable for their application, but still offer value in their hardware cycle (if they have one). Power/cooling/size is also an issue for certain designs and applications and they cannot manage a 3090 due to these restrictions. :)

Good insight that. Just out of interest, what kind of professionals are you working for? As in, individuals or/and companies?

Generally anyone I have ever seen post about their workloads have always basically said get the best you can as with more power = faster productivity = more money :D

But that is a very valid point on the size of the 3090.

Since when? At launch they called it ‘the worlds first 8k gaming GPU’. They specifically showed a number of YouTubers playing games at 8k. They didn’t even really talk about professional use cases, and all the pages on Nvidia’s website and their marketing assets speak 90+% about gaming. They toned down the ‘professional’ aspect significantly from when Titan launched years ago. They just referred to the 3090 as a ‘Titan’ class gaming GPU.

Not something that would be known by a lot of people but A number of 3D artist on youtube did recieve 3090 for promotional purposes around the launch.

I’m sure they did - I’m just saying the greater message from Nvidia was always that the 3090 was a Geforce (gaming) line card first and a Titan ‘class’ card second. All their own marketing assets reaffirm this - like I said, Jensen called it the worlds first 8k gaming GPU in the announcement video. It was always a gaming GPU first and foremost, it just had a ton of vram that was particularly helpful for other uses.

i think the titan is supposed to be a halo brand, nvidia just didnt have the performance delta for an ampere titan, its just how marketing works, the product was still fundamentally aimed at creators

if amd has nothing in the xx90 tier nvidia would probably skip the ti and launch a titan instead

I'm starting to wonder if the leaked 4080 16gb might be marketed as a "ti" model, given this teaser, you would be expecting something to be released "ti" related? And we have only had 4070, 4080 12/16gb and 4090 models confirmed/leaked, right? If there was another card, it would have also been leaked?

And other than more vram, it is looking to be quite a bit more powerful than the 4080 12gb model.

I don't dispute that, but their own presentation from the 30-series launch listed the RTX 3080 in the slides as the "new flagship device" ignoring the RTX 3090 and their original marketing pages list gaming as the very last thing in the list, here's a quote

"It’s the world’s fastest graphics card — much faster than the previous generation TITAN RTX.

Similar to TITAN RTX, GeForce RTX 3090 will appeal to the most demanding users. It’s great for creators making movies and rendering cinematics. It’s sure to appeal to researchers building systems for data science and AI. And, of course, it’s ideal for extreme gamers who want to experience the new world of 8K gaming."

It was marketed as a Titan class card, and the fact is was almost 2x the price of the new flagship 3080 at $1499 vs $699 says a great deal.

Let's just see what they prioritise with the 4090, are you putting you word again they'll put gaming at the bottom of the list again?
 
Lets all just hope that the PR team/Jenson make it more clear what is what this time otherwise we may have a repeat of people "claiming he said it was 2x faster!!!!" when reality is the wording was "up to 2x"

That’s the point, gaming wasn’t at the bottom of the list when you look at the overall positioning of the 3090 both at launch and since. It was always intended to be a gaming card with some content creation uses due to its large vram. That’s why it’s a Geforce card primarily. Heck it isn’t even a Titan - they just called it Titan ‘class’. That’s because the only ‘pro’ aspect it had was its large amount of memory. It doesn’t have any other features that aren’t available on any other RTX card like some of the Titans did.

Plenty of content creators may have bought a 3090 but I would wager outside of miners the majority went to those playing games.

There are cases where a 3070 is faster than a 2080ti though, it may not be 100% across the board at all times, it's just clever marketing, personally I would have gone with "2080ti performance for half the price" instead as that is much more appealing than "faster than a 2080ti"
