NVIDIA 4000 Series

But imagine how many xx60s you could buy for the cost of one xx90 - your hammer can have an absolute blast smashing those!!!
Haha. Only way my hammer is going anywhere near a GPU is if the GPU belongs to Grim

I don't mind chipping in for Grim's hammer :D
Don’t be silly, he is loaded, didn’t ya know? He does not need pennies from peasants like us :D

I'm happy to take donations, I'll setup a go fund me page
Not so loaded after all it seems ;)

I think you should do a video and put on YouTube smashing your 3090. Will probably get some money that way and at the same time prove to us your not full of **** :p

In Mortal Kombat there is a challenge called Test Your Might. You can call it Test Your Wallet, or if you are more of a crypto fan call it Proof Of Wallet. You can say POW with joy as you land the hammer. Lol.

You don't build wealth by spending all of it now do you (Elon Musk doesn't even own a house), don't worry I can walk into a dealership and buy a new Ferrari tomorrow doesn't mean I'm going to or want to - my name isn't Gibbo

As I said I'm happy to take donations, can never have enough.

Haha. Poor Grim :cry::D

so whats the latest "launch" date floating around then, as seeing as we are nearly in may and current prices have stalled im leaning more to waiting out now to replace this 1070.

Launch schedule
Paper Oct 22
Real Dec 22
Scalper all of 23
50% above msrp all of 24
Actual msrp late 25

:D

Last time we had the 3080 first then the 3090 a week later I think.

This time we might have the other way around with 4090 first - again going with end of September launch.

The 4080 will have a small amount of vram again but the Nvidia zombies will buy it anyway. Buy first, ask questions later.

I can't see them making that mistake again! As you say though zombie gonna zombie for the 80% mindset regardless.

Are you saying that current 3080 owners are regretting their purchase? If so got any links to those posts? We have one questionable title with supposed vram issues (even though 3090 owners are reporting same FPS drops too but lets ignore that because of narrative...

I think the ones who got it for £650 are feeling very smug (I'm not ashamed to say I am :D :p) unlike those who couldn't wait or couldn't get one and had to spend an "additional" £700 + just for 10-15% more performance.... Which will soon be superseded by a GPU costing £500 i.e. 4060/4070...

As shown by several sites, a 3080 is still regarded as the best GPU you can buy for performance to price, only beaten by a 3080ti and 3090 (if you aren't bringing cost into the equation)

Only people I can think of who should be regretting their purchase are the ones that couldn't get "any" GPU for MSRP as they're soon going to lose a fair bit of money.

Wasn’t the reason you ended up with a 3090 because you could not get a 3080? ;)

All this zombie crap, but chances are in all that time the only game you played that made use of the extra vram is FC6 when using the optional textures, unless you are fan of Godfall? :p

As I said when the 3080 came out, by the time we get the next gen cards there will be a handful of games that will need more than 10gb vram to play it maxed out textures and of those how many will one want to play? Want to know how many games that were on my must play list that I have missed out on so far due to a lack of vram? Grand total of zero

It was!

But it's ok... his wife said it was ok to get one and apparently he has made all the money back and more from mining or so he keeps telling us.... maybe still trying to convince himself that the 3090 value is ok before the 4060/4070 lands especially since mining out the door now with the electricity costs.... :D

I might create a thread just to see how many actual 3080 owners do regret their purchase as maybe I'm wrong... but it seems to be the same old people pushing an agenda/hate campaign against the 3080 i.e. by people who don't have a 3080 but they even admitted to wanting to get one in the first place....

PS. Thanks to tommys testing, it looks like godfall plays better on the 3080 than the 6800xt

Funny thing is though, that's ignored because it doesn't fit the narrative, same way all these halo findings is also ignored for same reason. Insert johntravolta.gif

Proof of Wallet, that's got game show written all over it
And as with most of those kind of shows, who's going to make sure there's no cheating? Says they're going to smash their 3090 with a hammer, but curiously bought a no-longer-working sold-as-parts one on flea bay just shortly before... A bit of editing and viola junk 3090 smashed!

The other advantage of buying midrange is you tend to lose less money when you come to sell the card, say cards go down 50% in value, 50% of a £1400 flagship card is £700 loss, 50% loss of a £500 midrange is £250
So that makes it a far harder to calculate.
Searching for deprecation of GPUs, I got a Techspot article from 2020 saying 15%, so went with that:
smNBKbS.png
Obviously 20% per year would totally change this. And it is likely that a true rate of depreciation is highest in the first year (aka the unwrapping = used goods concept).

What this doesn't take into account is your performance. If each two years, the cards go up one tier, then the 3060 buyer will get 3070 performance when they buy the 4060, then 3080 performance once they buy the 5060, etc.
So for the *60 buyers:
1 to 2: 3060 performance
3 to 4: 3070 performance
5 to 6: 3080 performance
7 to 8: 3090 performance
9 to 10: 3090+ performance.

And for the *70 buyers:
1.0 to 2.5: 3070 performance
2.5 to 5.0:: 3080 performance
5.0 to 7.5: 3090 performance
7.5 to 10.0: 3090+ performance.

Don't think I've made any decisions easier!

If each two years, the cards go up one tier,

A simple test, then: how does the RTX 3050 compare with the GTX 980? By that metric, the 3050 = 2060 = 1070 = 980.

And it more or less works out: https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/nv...core-i7-4770k-3-50ghz-vs-intel-core-i9-10900k

It seems the 3050 is more equivalent to the 980 Ti: https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/nv...core-i7-4790k-4-00ghz-vs-intel-core-i9-10900k

Note that the CPU used for the 3050 is rather better than those used for the 980 & 980 Ti so some of the improvement can be put there.

Funnily enough, I have a 3050 and a Titan (really a 980 Ti with extra VRAM) so I might give it a whirl.
