NVIDIA 4000 Series

Has anyone watched the Digital Foundry video, the 4090 using DLSS 3 is on another performance level to 3000 series. Frame Generation gives up to 5 times the performance.

While my opinion appears to be against the general grain in this forum (by that I mean I like the look of DLSS Frame Generation technology); keep in mind that Digital Foundry's video showed Native, DLSS 2 Performance and DLSS 3 Performance.

Meaning they were using Frame Generation on top of DLSS 2 Performance which is pretty much a no-go for everybody not on 4K because it would be a blurry mess.

Why they did it this way I've no idea, seems like Quality or Balanced would be the obvious better choice to use.

As I'm in the 4k TV OLED @ 120Hz bracket, the 3080ti Tuf doesn't cut it. Even with DLSS 2 on performance. The thought of going back to 1440p just to get silly high rates is going backwards.
You've almost always had to go to lower resolutions to get higher frame rates though? Going from 1440p to 4k is a big old leap, power wise. is 120hz at 4k worth approaching 2 grand to you?

A 3080ti is going to do most games at around 70 - 90hz fairly easily, isn't it? If that is "not cutting it" for you than fair enough, but that is how nVidia are able to charge the prices they want.

4k60 is easy to achieve based on my usage, obviously factoring in dlss/fsr usage as well or if not using RT maxed in the demanding titles. If you're wanting 4k 100+ fps then that is where it gets very tough as it's even tough trying to get 100+ fps on my 3080 @ 3440x1440

Agreed, I find much the same at 3840x1600 - My monitor is capable of 144, and a lot of what I play is able to get to around 80fps fairly simply, but higher is a push. I would rather accept 80hz (with the option to reduce settings and increase frame rate) than pay 2 grand is my main point.

Completely agree. I absolutely love the experience of a constant 140+ fps on qd-oled, the quality of the motion clarity is superb but not paying 40xx prices just to get that. If rdna 3 is **** too, I'll just make do with either using dlss balanced or even performance mode (as imo it looks pretty good now) or/and dropping a couple of settings to ensure at least 80+ fps.

I feel like 4k 3090 users might jump on the 4090 upgrade path however 1440p and below really should skip this gen.
I have at 4k and I'm sitting this one out, tweak a few settings and i can get 125 fps in pubg, I'm not paying Nvidia's prices do i can run everything on ultra.

OMG it looks so funny! :)

Yep should be a very noticeable upgrade for those who game at 4K but should also provide a good uplift at 1440p if you require really high fps .... i play at 4K 120hz & 1440p 240hz and if running Native at 1440p a 3090 will struggle to hit that 1440p 240hz consistently and some games wont be anywhere near that so there is still room to improve on the 3090 at 1440p if you require over 200fps :)

4 guys still trying to find their way out...

I know your a pro at doing what you do based on your location, but I recon you would not have to worry finding your way out. The 4090 lady would probably not even notice you going in.

4090 lady: You in yet?
JediFragger: Yes!!
4090 lady: You sure? I don't feel anything!?
JediFragger: Don't worry, I am more of an ass man

ditto

Blimey I bought a new 3090 last week for £899 and the place I bought it from had loads of lines now they have only 2 left and the card I bought is now £1299!

OCUK's have gone up £159.

I must admit, anybody buying a 3090ti last week for £900 when they were available will have done very well esp on the bang for buck counter.

Think that’s it but Gibbo gave some interesting nuggets of information that the difference between OC and non OC versions is going to be large. That the OC versions would be 200mhz higher but he couldn’t confirm at this point.

And yet all cards will probably boost to the same 2850Mhz depending on the silicon lottery. Hardly any card manufacturer speed bins anymore and with the 3000 series there were people with the cheapest none overclock cards which ran faster than the top of the range OC strix cards

It's a difficult decision, and I won't be taking it lightly.
The problem for me is going down 60fps on a 120hz OLED to keep 4k. I can see the frame difference quite clearly.
It's the difference between Performance and Fidelity mode on consoles.

And sorry, but 1440p looks absolute ***** on a decent 4k. Texture differences look huge. I Sometimes regret making the jump from 1440p to 4k. because of cost.
I thought 144Hz or even 200Hz was the sweet spot at 1440p, Until I jumped onto 4k 120Hz. It was a bigger jump then I thought it would be. Especially as AAA games are now being aimed at a base 4k resolution.

I would go AMD, but they are miles behind Nvidia When it comes to DLSS.
