NVIDIA 4000 Series

Soo the internet hasn't yet replicated the issue? Could be user error ;) end of GN video says possible design flaw is that the click when the cable goes in might not be very loud so more difficult to know its in correctly.

I'm guessing the same new connector will be on all the 4000 series Nvidia cards, not doing so would be illogical. But less risky due to the lower power requirements. Who knew electricity was so damn fussy! Not NVidia :)

See this is something I did notice, there definitely is a sign of force and click once you connect the adapter up to the card. That may be a lot to do with it, it's really hard to completely diagnose the issue. The Gamers Nexus video was very interesting.

I will say the 300V vs 150V cables almost seem like the most plausible reason at this point, I don't know if any of the failed adapters so far are 300v but I suppose everyone will now be checking this. I do have a cable ordered with Cable Mod but I've had no issue so far and I've been using the card for gaming daily, I'm not even removing the adapter to check.

If a fault does materialise then I'll deal with it at the time and if it ends up being an RMA case then so be it. I'm not overly worried about the situation.

Amazed Nvidia haven’t put out a statement yet even if it is along the lines of “we have received a very small number of reports and are currently investigating”.

How much longer can they let this go on while remaining silent?

Wow, looking at the pcmr subreddit I would be so paranoid about the cable melting I wouldn't be able to enjoy using the card!
why would smell it and stop gaming, it's not suddenly going to explode and take your house with it.

you could also just power limit your card in afterburner like most people probably are anyway, I wonder how many of the melted ones are using crap PSU with daisy chained cables

One of the threads over at pcmr mentioned not smelling anything but checked his connector anyway and it was starting to melt. Yeah we don't have the data but it doesn't seem like an isolated incident. If I paid over 2k for a gpu I would be fuming, not gently pushing the issue aside.

no GPU has even been damaged by it yet and if you got a psu with a native connector anyway you would have no issue.

unless it's a bequiet one apparently

Power limiting the card doesn't work as it still burnt down for many.

That’s not true, at least one GPU has been damaged possibly more.
where?

Why so much effort worrying about something that affects less than 1% of the GPU market..
seems like less than 0.01%... weird they still couldn't get one to fail trying pretty much everything...

probably cablemod sabotaging cables to generate sales and then trolls who no longer need the cable jumping on the bandwagon.

I don't get how the connector doesn't melt into the shape of the slot it's inserted onto

During their investor calls, they mentioned the 40 series was layered on top of the 30 series and not intended to replace it as they have a lot of unsold 30 series inventory. Pricing cannot be be brought down unless that inventory is liquidated. The only hope is AMD comes through with aggressive pricing for the 7900XT. Unfortunately, pricing for the 7000 series CPUs indicates AMD pricing will be just as bad as Nvidia. Unless the 3000 series and 6000 series inventory is entirely sold, these prices are here to stay.

Anyone have similar to this in HWinfo for wattage readings or know what this rail is? I have seen it go as high as almost 600w which is impossible as this card is locked at 450w and you can't even move the power target, I wonder if this is related to some of the melting plugs especially those that can go to 600w, Is this a normal power spike as I don't recall seeing this on my 3080. Jonny guru:
TLDR:
-Connector is fine
-Nvidia adapter is garbage
-PCB of the card does matter
-older psus without native 16 pin connector(on psu side) can actually be more user friendly to avoid the bending on psu side and new psu pcb may not be adequate to handle new connector.

So no need for a new psu as long as yours is of high quality and you get a proper cable

^.. now it's big news on Reddit Nvidia ...

Funny how they all reacted when the same thing I posted day before got down voted and mods there changed it from news to rumour... It was me that told them lol, even named at the bottom of the article.. but now people are upset and big news  because videocardz reposted what I tipped them on..

Anyways lets hope this makes nvidia aware of how we all think about this situation with the pricing of this generation and spreads more.
