NVIDIA 4000 Series

I see the Palit OC 4090 is now 2k, I think it was 1.8k a couple of days ago! Was it even less? This price hike must be because it’s the only model remaining?

On another note, why is 4090 stock so thin on the ground at the moment?

Yeah it was £1699 not long ago, A sheep in a random field in Wales farted so they had to put the price up.

Think that maybe stock is being held back for modifications? I recall one of the potential “fixes” was shorter sense pins to stop the card from being able to be used with a plug that isn’t fully inserted.

Otherwise it does seem drops have been rather… sparse.

Well retailers that behave this way will not be seeing my money, simple as that. :D Their loss and I buy many thousands of pounds worth of equipment a year for my self and for my work.. So they can keep it up as there is many retailers out there not behaving this way. Once the retailers that behave this way kill themselves off we as customers will win. Because this silly game of poker they are playing with each other and also deliberately manipulating the market with most of them watching each other and matching prices.

They can keep playing with each other till they end up bankrupt when the last of their customers have enough. I have already moved my purchasing for work to different retailers as the previous retailer decided to play the scalping game threw the covid period and gave excuses of shortages for stuff we knew they had 100's off in stock and just wanted to scalp them so we purchased elsewhere and funny part was some of the stock came from the retailer we refused to buy from and saved ourselves over 35% out of a purchase that was over £650,000 so work out the saving we saved buying from a retailer that didn't try to scalp us and now imagine the loss they made on one sale for that. Like I said wallets in pockets till you pay what an item is really worth not scalped. Want to get scalped well enjoy it and expect it to carry on then.

Either that or another theory (from me) is there going to flood the market with stock just before the rdna3 launch.

Something must be going on, so little stock and it’s been close to two months since the 4090 launched.

I had wondered about possible power connector modifications. Or it could be supply manipulation to shift remaining 30xx series and 4080s.

The GPU industry feels like the Wild West sometimes!

EDIT: Or perhaps manufacturing was pivoted towards the 4080 ahead of it’s launch. 4090 demand has been strong and availability may have been further compounded by what would have been 4080 buyers opting for the 4090 instead. I’m guessing supply chains are healthy given the availability of the 4080.

Testing reveals that with the RTX4090, the gaming load power draw can be cut down to 230w whilst losing just 7% performance using an 850mV undervolt

Just fitted the EKWB block for my FE. Usual great build quality from EKWB and the FE comes apart very easily. The thermal pads didn't tear either so should be easy to put back together and not be a warrently concern.

Certainly been a gold rush for them.

When I buy a 4090 I don't fancy losing 10% performance to get 'max' power savings. I would rather get 100% performance and 'good' power savings.

Well if you read the article you'd know that you can also do a 950mV undervolt which gets you full performance and brings power draw down to 280w
