NVIDIA 4000 Series

So I've been messing about with the power level on my Inno Ichill and I think I've found my sweetspot.

I've limited the power to 80% but left power as priority in Afterburner (Unlinked to temp) not sure what difference that made if any.

Raised my core clock +175mhz and mem to +1000 and I've got exactly the same performance but it doesn't go over 357w I'm happy with that.

Tested that in an area of Cyberpunk where it was pushing 440w.

The core increase brought 99% almost all the performance back within 1 or 2 FPS and then the Vram brought back the remaining 1 or 2 FPS.

I was actually quite surprised the Vram increase didn't do more it was the core clock that made most of the difference.

I'm happy with an 88w saving all with 0 performance loss, Surprising why Nvidia pushed the power on these so hard, They really didn't need it!

While I've not got a 40x0 card to test on; I'm fairly certain your memory OC is actually doing more harm than good. If memory serves (pun not intended) the VRAM is error correcting, so you can force obscene clocks and it won't really crash - but it has to do a lot more work to correct for the errors you're introducing from clocking too high. Maybe the 40x0 cards can sustain +1000mhz..... but it might be worth looking into and testing on lower mem clocks.

Yeah I've already tested different Vram speeds mate, I can push this to 1150 from memory then I get an error in event log for the display driver.

I think it works a bit different on these 40x series, I don't know about the 4080 but with the 4090 you can turn off ECC (Error Correction) in the drivers which is disabled by default and it does seem to be doing it's job.

I didn't have this option with my old 3080, It seems it was on by default and I did notice that with the 3080 FPS would drop the more you pushed the Vram but I'm not seeing that on the 4090 it just crashes when pushed too far.

Nice! You can definitely get away with lowering the power limit on these cards and have negligible performance loss.

I gave my 3080ti with Special edition FE waterblock on to my gf for 500. She was really happy because buying one new even without a block would have been much more. would much rather give it cheap to a relative that knows you aren't going to mug them off, than sell it on ebay to a random and get barely any more money after the ebay tax anyway.
Really don't see the issue here.
Too tight to give a GPU away to your GF yet you're happy to give your cash away to Huang.

Blimey. I like a drink, but this is intervention level, surely?

Booze has become VERY expensive out in town, But the £300 is also with expensive junk food, Cigarettes etc... For me it's all a complete waste of money as you don't have anything to show for it, May aswell withdraw £300 from the cash machine and light it on fire.

People selling graphics cards to their kids and girlfriends. ******* hell.
Some people in this thread really are low IQ if they don't get that many people can't afford to give away expensive GPU's for free when upgrading. There is zero logical reason why you should not sell a GPU to a wage-earning adult family member for a good and reduced price, it is still obviously doing them a favour.

If you are a "generous drunk" eg: you offer people rounds then in big cities and clubs it would not be so difficult to hit £300! But yeah, that is just daft of course.

Ah ok gotcha. Nice addition of being able to toggle ECC -- didn't know about that. :D Being able to OC the mem by a gig though... pretty insane

If you can't afford to give away a GPU to your partner or a family member yet are buying a cards like 4090 then you have your priorities all wrong.

As the X3D is so good and does allow AM4 (for a gamer) to last a good bit longer it would be a good choice. It's those 1% lows it excels in some games. Waiting for prices to drop - they may go a bit more but judging by the X3D thread, lots went at the £350 mark so less stock

Over here in 'stralia I've been able to order one this week at approx 280 quid so I would say if UK prices are at 350, they might have a way to drop yet.

My heart bleeds for the scalpers. Well, not really.
Yep. No sympathy at all.
It does make you wonder who the idiots are, though. To anyone in the know, it was obvious the 4080 was going to fail. I guess these are dumb people who didn't research their product. But then that's always the way, isn't it? It's the stupid people who get caught. The wise money didn't even attempt to scalp a doomed graphics card.
