NVIDIA 4000 Series

Cba changing my PSU though, Phanteks AMP 750. I will wait for the 4080 to have its price drop. Looking at all the reviews recently and it's clear the 4080 draws on average 100 watts less than the 3080 Ti, whilst the 4090 is more. Total system draw on average well over 600 watts for the 4090, whilst it's around 450 for the 4080 system in reviews.

I really like this PSU, and also my cable routing, so don't want the faff of changing all that
I'm running my 4090 and 5800x3d on a corsair sfx 750w psu with no issues.

I know the videos about cables melting is mostly about plugging it in properly. But I'm still a little concerned about this.
Maybe users on here have the same and aren't concerned anymore because of debunked theories.
But here is mine. fractal Torrent case (fantastic for airflow) But the TT GF3 12VHPWR cable isn't sleeved at the bend.
As you can see. The PSU is above, And the gpu cannot be vertical mounted, Not a fan anyway.

I use cablemod 12VHPWR for my 4090 and it's even more bend than the cable you use.

Also from my work experience It never happened to me that the cable melted.

I thought about cablemod, but the cover plate at that length, would put huge pressure on the plug because of the glass pushing against it.
So thanks, i'll avoid using a cablemod in my situation

I'm hoping after christmas we will see decent prices, finally. It's just a waiting game really, in the past I would have said you would just be waiting forever for the next best thing but the prices have sort of kicked that statement out the window. I'm not waiting for the next best thing, I'm waiting for a reasonable price. Top of the range everything is coming out around 4k, 1.6k of that from the gpu alone. It's insane.

Here's hoping Jenson announces frame generation support for ampere at CES in January to help sell the remaining ampere stock :D If he did, that'll see me out till next gen tbh

When globally there has been significant crashes and recession and possibly more to come over 2023, shifting these components is not going to be plain sailing. We have the initial launch and fomo period almost done, the mid range has yet to surface so lets see how that unfolds too.

Just do as you advised in the W3 thread, drop the power limit. :)

Whatever I do end up getting I'll be getting without VAT anyway so price isn't a huge issue any more - Realistically I will likely never make full use of a 4090 as will not be going 4K for several more years by which point we will be at what, RTX 60 series or 70? :p
Hmm wonder if I can put one through my books for vat.
Now what could I need it for on a commercial fishing boat :D

  • Haha
Reactions: mrk
I was just about to pull teh trigger on a 4090 untill i checked the specs for a ek waterblock. Depth of the waterblock is deeper then my O11D XL has to spare :( gonna wait and see what happens with AMD now

Not happening go buy a 4080
Here's a hot take I've been thinking of the last few weeks. AMD FSR works on any GPU, and in the latest implementations works really well on Nvidia cards, Callisto Protocol being a prime example.

AMD are working on FSR 3 for 2023 which is said to employ similar frame generation tech too, it simply has to in order to keep up with Nvidia. Will AMD's version also support other GPUs like FSR2 does? Granted that AMD cards will probably work better with FSR frame gen, but even if it gives a 20% uplift to non AMD cards, then that's huge and would instantly affect sales of Nvidia 40 series cards forcing Nvidia to reduce prices even further. Why even bother with a 40 series when a used 30 series can get at least 20% (speculation) more thanks to FSR 3 in games that use it?!

There isn't anything special in RDNA3 that shows frame gen hardware dedicated for that purpose, so I suspect we may have some juicy FSR3 news next year that benefits a much wider audience and a reason why AMD has not officially said anything about FSR3 yet during the RDNA3 launch, because if this theory is true, then nobody would bother with RDNA3 either if RDNA2 can get a bigger uplift.
