NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Thanks to this thread I'll think I got an absolute bargain if it's less than 2k!
That's how they get ya.

Nvidia leak prices that are £500 above the actual price, everyone loses their mind. They announce the actual price. "Oh that's not so bad"

Yup. That's the thing with the price of GPUs, it doesn't actually cost you a lot in the long run.

I sold my 3080 for like ~150 less than I paid for it when I upgraded to the 4090, and I expect I'll get a similar return when I sell the 4090 after getting a 5090.

5090 could end up costing £2500, but if in 2 years it's worth £2000 second hand then eh :p

Same, as well as making over £1000 mining on my 3080 overnight and whilst I was at work.
It cost me £675 on release and I sold it for not a lot less when I bought my 4090

Edit - If the 5080/5090 are too high priced I might be able to sell the 4090 for a good chunk more than it cost. Or even get 100% back on it after keeping it for another year. Who knows lol

I'm sure there was a time when the new product would perform better than the previous, and occupy the same price bracket. It seems every new gen, prices increase alongside performance, there isn't really an incentive to make the jump anymore

I would always buy the top card under the old sort of ethos, but I haven't bought the top end Nvidia card in years now. You definitely can be put off by crazy pricing, and vote with your wallet.

It's true. It's more like buying gold bars lol.

The 4090 has been top dog for two years, for the next two it will be second from top (most likely). On top of that it's held it's value.

It's like getting a mortgage, better to get on the train early than have to stump up £3000 for a 6090 all in one go! Lol.

It is interesting as I seen a lot of enthusiasts on here were also buying up 4090's as they were the best value. Many either sold them after as they realised they did not use/need the performance or still have yet to push them as they tend to not play AAA titles. So you may not see as many go for this gens best value, just ones migrating from 4090 > 5090 which should be a smaller %.

It could all kick off with people going mad on LLM local setups and renting compute and the market will price it bananas again.

That's it lads. Get on the GPU ladder ASAP. The earlier you buy the more you save!

 Yep, Jensen has little work to do with that mindshare punter.

I rent out 90 series cards to my tenants, those who can't afford to get on the GPU ladder. Easy money and gives me a free GPU upgrade every two years.
You're providing a much needed service to the community, I salute you. The world needs more cardlords like yourself.

Other people may moan, but have they tried living at home with their parents for a few years to save up and buy perhaps a small 70 series to get on the ladder? I suspect not.

Anyone that doesn’t save every penny towards a card (at the cost of giving up all slivers of enjoyment in their life) simply isn’t trying hard enough and can’t complain if they don’t own one.

Cards were cheaper back in the day, but also people are paid more now and interest rates are lower. So, yeah, younger generation is just lazy.

The ASUS ROG ASTRAL. Because prices are sky high innit.

ASUS should have called it ASTRONOMICAL because that is what they and Nvidia usually price their stuff as.

asus is the new dictionary definition for overpriced
its the last resort option, when all other skus have been sold out
also, asus and gigabyte currently are the only integrators who have a fully automated assembly line for gpus, and they dont heat pcbs, maybe if thats the kind of thing that appeals to you
