NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Ah yeah you're right, just looked up the 4090 numbers at the same settings and yeah - so the 5080 is 18% faster than 4080 but still 22% slower than the 4090, roughly in the middle of the 4080 and 4090.
The 4090 still has more VRAM though, for what it's worth to anyone.

The 5080 is going to be a good GPU, just not as good as previous gen uplift.

im out of the loop here, but does this sound about right ?

in "most games" at 2K or 4K

from 3080 to 5090 -

3080<3090<4080<4090 < *5080<5090 ?

*same pattern

The 5080 needed to have 24GB of RAM. Absolutely unconscionable to give it only 16GB. But I suppose that would make it a more viable card for AI which could then lead to fewer sales for the 5090. There have been rumours that it will get bumped up to 24GB for the inevitable refresh.

There's been idle speculation, from myself for that matter, but I don't believe there is anything resembing a rumour.

Waiting for a refresh wouldn't be any more satisfying. It would likely cost more, be a year later and only a year away from the 6000 series.

I do think 16gb while not great, is going to be largely fine. It's a tough one.

My 3090 was using over 20 Gb vram with modded Skyrim tonight. How's that going to work with a 5080?

I'm not sure what the penalties are tbh. I would say it's a niche case. For future games nvidia is investing in texture compression, which will likely come into play for any games that approach the 16gb mainstream limit.

By the time 16GB isn't enough, the 5080 won't be able to run the latest games at 4K native. The same is true for 4080(S) and 7900 XTX.

17% over the 4080 would be very disappointing for anyone on a recent card that doesn't want to spend 4 grand CAD on a 5090. I hope this leak turns out as credible as the other ones have proven

What if you have a 6k or 8k monitors?

4k is a pretty standard res in todays society. Every TV for example sold is mostly 4k.

4k res has been a resolution that has been in our society for a very long time now.

It should pretty much be teh base mark now

My first 4K monitor was in 2014 :D
