NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Our man Brent over at The FPS Review had some interesting comments on CPU bottlenecking:

I'd never buy a video card based on what other future components may bring to it (same point he stresses), but worth noodling on and testing.

Honestly, not that bad

And that 2k is basically just the FE edition... imagine what most of the AIB's are going to be. After seeing reviews it just confirms that this generation really isn't good, unless you are using it to make money basically.

Spends 2K, worries about 20W idle power...

If you flick the card with your finger, apparently it makes a slightly 'tingy' noise. Worrying.

Oh and I'm wearing some grey and black clothes so why more of this colour? Objectively bad.

Looks like I'm out. Phew - I sure am glad I was intelligent enough to buy the card I already own.

It wouldn't all be as bad if the 4090 prices weren't the same or higher than the 5090 MSRP. For high end, 4k gaming, there aren't exactly a lot of choices if you don't want second hand.

Nice choice of words sir :D

The idle power consumption not great, almost 20W more than 4090.

I do wonder if that's with more than one video cable connected? I can't remember if it's the case for the 4090 but any time you had more than one display connected on older cars the GPU would run at higher clock speeds and power consumption.

The 5090 display board PCB is connected by a cable to the GPU PCB.

weird, hardware unboxed couldn't hear it over case fans.

Techpowerup has standardised sound tests, so the DB values can be trusted.

40DB is loud, even worse than 3090 FE and 4090FE.
Perhaps hardware unboxed person has hearing loss, or has case fans on high RPM? Either way, FE cooler is not adequate for those wanting a quieter system.

Check how quiet the 4090 Strix is compared to the 4090 FE below. The Astral's cooler looks to be improved, though has one extra fan over the 4090 Strix, so will probably be a few db louder, but will still probably be the quietest 5090
