NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

So, it's stupid powerful, but even more stupidly overpriced. Who could have guessed :P

Sorry but for £2k+ a card should be able to manage 60 FPS at 4K in a five year old AAA game without turning on any of the "sacrifice quality for FPS numbers" stuff.

i had my 4090 listed and as soon as the reviews dropped someone purchased it at asking price of £1715, i have a decent laptop that i can take the hit of not having a gpu for a while if i miss out on getting 5090 at launch but think i done well from sale overall for a used card
Thats a very good amount you sold it for but it still is going to be the 2nd best card on the market when the 5080 comes out so i think the price is firmly going to sit between the 5080 and 5090 for the next 12 months... then they might start dipping more as warranties expire and potentially a 5080Ti comes out which matches the 4090 in performance

Not surprised, still a great card. I am tempted to put mine in for like £2k just to see if people would be that desperate... xD Problem is that it could sell and then I would have no GPU. :D And I don't plan to get 5k series at all.

So, between £3k and £1.6k you mean? ;) As I predict with low supply we'll see scalpers pricing more than retail one for months to come.

yea ideally id have loved to have been in a position to be able to hold onto 4090 until i got a 5090 but just wasnt possible for me to do so money wise, 4090 still an absolute beast of a card but iv got my use from it now and should be able to compensate a big outlay for a new card now with a minimal hit to money side of things while getting a new warranty to go along with

After the reviews not worth upgrading if you own a 4080 or 4090. £2000 for 5090 is not worth it for 35% uplift over 4090, if you sell your 4090 for ~£1000+ its not worth putting up another £1000 for such minimal gains. I would rather save that £1000 for next gen gpu.

If you sold it on the Bay I hope you put cash on collection and don't accept bank transfer, too many scammers.

without taking into consideration the price, its a pretty decent jump it looks like. Around 2-40% improvement in raster and in RT. But considering it costs 25% more than the 4090 did at launch, is at as good? Probably not

I hope you have another card to use in the mean time.. i assume you have seen stock levels which is basically nothing for the 5090?

Anyone using the 40 series already and were looking to upgrade is probably going to be disappointed, but anyone with 30 series or older cards will see a notable improvement. And thats without the frame gen stuff

This sums up MFG perfectly:

"it works the best when it makes the least sense to use it" basically got to have good frame rate anyway for it to be of use.

The only perfect use case I can think of for MFG is FlightSim. In this case the base framerate and latency aren't actually that important, frame smoothing is exactly what you want.

i have a laptop with a 4000 series card so i can continue to game on that i know chances of getting a 5000 series straight out the gates are slim but also getting good money for a used card in the meanwhile
