NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Cost cutting it seems, cheaped out by removing the vapor chamber and liquid metal and used heatpipes and regular TIM instead.

Woulda been simpler from a manufacturing pov to just produce the same cooler for 2 cards you'd think.

Exactly, and what they did with the 4080 and 4090. The cooler was over-engineered for the 4090, let alone the 4080.

I've just had a quick look on the bay and there are loads of 4090FEs that have sold for like £1700-1800ish in the last day or two - nuts!

unless my 3090 goes pop this looks like a very missable generation for me.... maybe i will consider a mid season refresh card but am not holding my breath......... fingers crossed my 3090 has another couple of years in it
I think with DLSS, optimised settings and modding - you'll be fine (well that's what I'm telling myself).

I'm genuinely surprised that even when the product is obviously a massive disappointment, that people will still rush to buy them. Keep your money guys, you deserve better at these prices, vote with your wallets people.
If someone is upgrading from a RTX3090 they are still going to see a huge performance increase and for them it could be worthwhile unless they can find an RTX4090 for a good price.

What makes the least sense to upgrade is if you already own an RTX4090, unless you REALLY need the additional 30% performance for VR or triple display simming.

I'm a little stressed as I was hoping to grab a 5080 - but after seeing the reviews I'm not so sure. My sim(racing) rig has a (10gb) 3080 and I struggle with the triple screens, and sometimes in VR. Ho hum.
I think they'll still sell out.

Me too, a lil stressed and disappointed, I sold my 4070 Ti Super in preparation for this new generation lol. I don't like having to hope that AMD's new card is worthy, and offers some excitement. They have already jebaited their launch. Ah well, at worst I'll save the momey towards 6000 series. Maybe I'll go a higher tier as well. so 4070Ti S >> RTX 6080.

So if we separate specific use cases where someone needs a new GPU and they are coming from an older generation. And focus on this generation on it's own merits, it's woefully disappointing.

Then if you focus on someone coming from an older generation like 2000 / 3000 series, there is a good bang for buck argument to be made for buying a used GPU with a warranty over a 5000 Series.

i sold my 4090 last week because i wanted the 5090 but my reasoning for it is because of the monitor i have a samsung g9 57 thats 7680x2160 resolution and can do that up to 240hz, the 4090 sadly doesnt have a dp 2.1 port so it can do that resolution only as far as 120hz, so im trying to get the 5090 for that reason and that ill prob see more of a boost over my 4090 because of the resolution that ill be gaming at but as i said before anyone selling a 4090 to get a 5090 to game at resolutions under 4k its a waste of time i think

That's what I am doing now too, 9800x3D and new mobo and RAM are incoming!
I did that too (parts are here). But I’m coming away from wc which means my GPU needs to be changed. So it’s a 5080 for me if I can get one, or a lower tier card second hand until I can sort out my 6900XT . Or I may refund the cpu and wait.

We’ll see.

This kinda kicks multi-frame gen in the nuts. We saw with the 5090 that you need 70+ FPS to reduce artifacts, which the 5080 will struggle with unless you can turn down some settings that don't hurt the appearance too much.

Unfortunately that's why Nvidia gets away with peddling this rubbish, consumers only have themselves to blame.

FSR and DLSS v1 were also terrible Tbf. MFG should get better, but not until they release it again unfortunately

Basically exactly what I and others have been saying for years. To get good FG performance you need a good base framerate first, and only the higher end cards can manage that where nothing seems to have changed for 50 series with MFG.

immediately bought a new 4080 for £850 after reviews dropped. Upgrading from a 3080 so just doesnt seem worth it given no extra vram on the 5080

From where? Thanks

Just picked up a new 7900xtx hellhound for £630. Was wanting to get a 5080 but seems like it’s terrible value and hardly any improvement and people saying price will drop a lot so gonna wait it out for a 5080 super or 60 series

From where? Thanks

No doubt, even DLSS3 has had a new model released, but I don't think it's a valid selling point until it's good. Obviously everyone has their own preferences for how they prefer to play.
