NVIDIA 780 Ti Announced (18/10/13)

It won't be as simple as that, nvidia are already 1? 2? 3? steps ahead with it all, things like cost and research time for AMD to create their own version need to be taken into account as well.

I wish it was as simple as look it works for that company so we'll copy it though.

They could easily do it though by the time the monitors are out, I've seen both AMD and NVIDIA move very fast when it comes to releasing a competing technology which they then make available on all their latest range.

Upto NVIDIA, they could set any price, upto them how much profit/loss they make, could be £500 or £700, they set the price.

Let's face it option 2 is unlikely because all end-users with 780 can over clock their 780's for same performance. 6GB will make little to no difference in performance over 3GB, only 2GB cards have performance issues.

By the time 4k is affordable and games are exceeding 3GB we will be on Maxwell and AMD's new generation.

I am happy to bet a tenner that it will be option 2 with 6GB and faster clocks on a 780 GPU. ;)

Considering nvidia have put years into this if AMD did do it then it would be a quick bodge job, I'd imagine nvidia have their technology copyrighted as well so it couldn't just be copied.

Hi there

Ok I have no information from NVIDIA, it was of course expected as I mentioned it a few weeks ago but as NVIDIA have told me nothing, I am free to speak. :)

As such 780ti can only be one of two things:-

1. GK110 (Titan) with higher clock speeds, but 3GB of RAM to help reduce cost with custom coolers. GK110 however is a huge chip and very hard to make, so sub £500 doubtful unless they want to sell at little profits.
2. GTX 780 with a maximum over clock and maybe 6GB option, much cheaper to make, they could re-align all price points 770 upwards, so 770 at £279, 780 at £429 and 780ti at 479-499

Which do I think it will be? Option 1 for sure!

Are AMD R290's doomed, no way, if AMD price 290 series right they can bring a great fight to NVIDIA and Q4 will be great for consumers and both teams will have great products at great prices. The end result more sales and better value for money to customers.

I think option 2 with:
4 Raster-Engines, 1920 Shader-units, 160 TMUs, 48 ROPs, 384 Bit Interface, 6GB Vram. 1033/1150/3000 MHz

Something has to be left for Titan Ultra.

Well it's gonna be either one or two. Which means if you already have a 780 and over clocked it your pretty much already at 780ti performance.

If NVIDIA want a big performance leap we need 790. :D

I've been delibating over a titan for tripple 1440p. I still think a 290x with 4GB of vram MIGHT struggle. 780 will with only 3GB, if this turns out to be a 780 with 6GB of ram at a price point below the titans. Its a no brainer.

Even if mantle is gods gift to gaming, I can manage without mantle for 2 years until its widely supported. Very interesting development! Cant wait to see the 780Ti against the 290x. Some possible hard choices to make soon! wahoo!
