NVIDIA 780 Ti Announced (18/10/13)

In all honesty I can see me just settling for 780's if they drop weeks before the TI because I'm getting bored not gaming. It's only going to be a card for a year anyway if that.

I'm going to stick with my 780 SLI until Maxwell comes out or maybe even the 2nd iteration of maxwell as I can't see 100 extra CUDA cores and the same clocks making that much of a difference, Especially when I have both my 780's overclocked to 1202/3402 :)

Stick with what you have got

Whatever NVidia come up with will fit in along the lines of the GTX Titan v GTX 780. More SMX modules = lower overclock v Less SMX modules = higher overclock. End result they both end up with pretty close performance coming from different directions.

Hi there

Ok I have no information from NVIDIA, it was of course expected as I mentioned it a few weeks ago but as NVIDIA have told me nothing, I am free to speak. :)

As such 780ti can only be one of two things:-

1. GK110 (Titan) with higher clock speeds, but 3GB of RAM to help reduce cost with custom coolers. GK110 however is a huge chip and very hard to make, so sub £500 doubtful unless they want to sell at little profits.
2. GTX 780 with a maximum over clock and maybe 6GB option, much cheaper to make, they could re-align all price points 770 upwards, so 770 at £279, 780 at £429 and 780ti at 479-499

Which do I think it will be? Option 1 for sure!

Are AMD R290's doomed, no way, if AMD price 290 series right they can bring a great fight to NVIDIA and Q4 will be great for consumers and both teams will have great products at great prices. The end result more sales and better value for money to customers.

Sorry Boomstick i don't buy that at all. No matter how often it's repeated.
The loudest and most vocal voices on this forum are from Nvidia fanboys. There may be more AMD users but that's a different thing entirely.

Just giving you my honest completely unbiased opinion ;). Btw both my rigs are currently using nvidia cards (Titan and 480SLI) and i intend on getting a couple of 290xs so i don't fall in to either category.

I'm inclined to agree with your post tayto. That sort of thing gets repeated a lot around here but when you look at the people saying things, its often the other way around. Agree with you about more AMD users here as well.

Great post Gibbo, that settles most of the silly banter from both sides :)

lol Humbug, huge AMD fan and the only person I know who shows so much hate towards the other side on here.

I think option 2 looks very likely as the GTX 780s weakness against the 290X is the 3gb of vram, also looking at the name is a big clue GTX 780ti.

Do you have any indication as to when the G-SYNC monitors will be available Gibbo? Or is this still largely under wraps/NDA?

I am thinking option 2 with a higher stock clock and 6GB. The 780 custom cards are faster than a stock Titan, so very easy for them to chuck on another 3GB clock it up and call it the fastest Nvidia GPU.

Monitor refreshes take time, maybe Q1 2014 but more likely Q2, also if G-sync is so amazing, then AMD will simply release their own version and the monitor manufacturers will work with both NVIDIA and AMD.

It won't be as simple as that, nvidia are already 1? 2? 3? steps ahead with it all, things like cost and research time for AMD to create their own version need to be taken into account as well.

I wish it was as simple as look it works for that company so we'll copy it though.

What sort of RRP would you expect such a card to retail for, £650 ?

Upto NVIDIA, they could set any price, upto them how much profit/loss they make, could be £500 or £700, they set the price.

Let's face it option 2 is unlikely because all end-users with 780 can over clock their 780's for same performance. 6GB will make little to no difference in performance over 3GB, only 2GB cards have performance issues.

By the time 4k is affordable and games are exceeding 3GB we will be on Maxwell and AMD's new generation.

How To Upgrade To G-SYNC

If you’re as excited by NVIDIA G-SYNC as we are, and want to get your own G-SYNC monitor, here’s how. Later this year, our first G-SYNC modules will be winging their way to professional modders and System Builders who will install G-SYNC modules into ASUS VG248QE monitors, rated by press and gamers as one of the best gaming panels available.

Alternatively, if you’re a dab hand with a Philips screwdriver, you can purchase the kit itself and mod an ASUS VG248QE monitor at home. This is of course the cheaper option, and you’ll still receive a 1-year warranty on the G-SYNC module, though this obviously won’t cover modding accidents that are a result of your own doing. A complete installation instruction manual will be available to view online when the module becomes available, giving you a good idea of the skill level required for the DIY solution; assuming proficiency with modding, our technical gurus believe installation should take approximately 30 minutes.

If you prefer to simply buy a monitor off the shelf from a retailer or e-tailer, NVIDIA G-SYNC monitors developed and manufactured by monitor OEMs will be available for sale next year. These monitors will range in size and resolution, scaling all the way up to deluxe 3840x2160 “4K” models, resulting in the ultimate combination of image quality, image smoothness, and input responsiveness.
