NVIDIA 780 Ti Announced (18/10/13)

In pure memory bandwidth terms, yes, but I'm not convinced there's much to be gained by the 512 bit bus other than 4K which of course is minuscule market presently.

+1

Even if you had a 2048bit bus at normal resolutions it won't make the slightest difference. It is a bit like driving on an empty 6 lane motorway, adding 2 more lanes will not make it possible for you to go any faster.

So is there actually a "cap" or something which having higher memory bandwidth will no longer give higher frame rate?

From what I understand, so long as people are using AA or SuperSampling even, there's performance to be gain by having higher memory bandwidth, even if it is only for 1920 res.

One thing that is becoming increasingly frustrating is the 290X being 4K this and 4K that but who on earth has a 4K monitor/TV? Anyone? cmon, must be someone here?.... For sure these benchmarks that have been put out for the 290X at 4K make it look good but for the vast majority of 1080P gamers and the rest that are 1440P and 1600P, it would be nice to see some benchmarks for those reolutions.

I am going to dig at AMD and ask what they are planning? If they had released these on the 15th or at least lifted the NDA then, they would have swallowed up sales from Nvidia but instead, they have dragged their heels and Nvidia have grabbed the bull by the horns and taught it to dance. No messing with Nvidia the last 2 days...In and out, news of this and that and here it all is in a working capacity.

I seriously want to see AMD do well and all this talk of Mantle sounds promising but why not have it on show? They should have had some form of tech demo showing it but nothing except a slide (which Boomstick likes).

I watched the whole of the AMD presentation and the whole of the Nvidia presentation (missed the first 40 mins of yesterday) and have to say the difference is night and day. Nvidia nailed it with big demo's, whilst AMD nailed it with playing music that wasn't allowed on youtube.... Someone at AMD needs sacking if you ask me.

Back on topic. Nvidia have stated that this new 780Ti will be out with reviewers in the next few days. I bet it will be the next few days when we see results.

If we get some proper reviews in for the 780ti before the 290x that's pretty laughable.

From Nvidia's point, it is like AMD are allowing them to dictate the scene.

Roy tweets this and that but when it comes to show and tell, nothing.

Nvidia don't respond but do put their money where their mouth is.

Maybe I am being a little over critical but I was/am desperate to see what the 290X could do with an interest in getting one but the longer they drag their heels, the guys desperate for a new GPU will be jumping on Nvidia.

What would be awesome is if Nvidia dish the 780ti for reviews as the nda on the 290x ends. Then we see some relevant 1080p/1440p of the two cards going head to head before either release.

Itl never happen though. :(

The other thing to remember is the 290X is not as fast as AMD would have people think, if it loses in nearly all the synthetic benchmarks to existing NVidia cards (I know they are not games) this gives a good idea as to how much GPU grunt the card really has.

I wonder if AMD will start "working with"/bribingencouraging the people that write the benchmarks to make the engine support Mantle?
I guess if enough games start to support it (more than just the EA ones that will use Frostbite) then to remain relevant you'd think the benchmarks should have a Mantle implementation.

Of course if G-Sync really does allow lower framerates to feel smoother and the technology catches on, then benchmark scores might not be as useful as they are now (and even now they're only of limited use).

Not over critical at all mate I think you're bang on the money. I have three 290x on order as they seem to do the numbers but as it drags out and the details are constantly being contradicted, not to mention the Montreal stunt with suspect setup, I'm just losing interest entirely.

If this entire thing has been a game of chess, it doesn't matter if AMD have/had better pieces at hands...they played the game poorly I have to say.

The only thing that would save AMD from this mess is if Nvidia decide to get greedy and overpricing their products AGAIN, and AMD come out much better bang of bucks or something.

AMD just need to know that there is a low level price that Nvidia are unlikely to go for, and then go for that themselves.

£350, Bang! lets see if you will go there Nvidia. :)

Less messing about and more doing.

Good analogy with the Chess reference and to me, AMD are still deciding where to move, whilst Nvidia have already moved and in the process of 'check' going for 'check mate'. Of course the game isn't finished and with Nvidia's track record of pricing, this could be a failing for them.

I prey Nvidia do price low and force AMD to follow but the smart me says "that aint happening bruv"

Its quite possible, I suppose, all of these "leaks" are choreographed by AMD themselves.

Give Nvidia an idea of whats coming to force them into a preemptive response, and then better that response.

Make them show their hand first.

Basically all this Mantle, TrueAudio, G-Sync, ShadowPlay stuff has been done so both companies can charge more. They REALLY like this new £500 price point.

If there is no price war then I hope the authorities investigate possible collusion/price fixing.

If Nvidia can get away with £800 Titans, I am sure they can get away with £500 GPU's :D

Nvidia Announces GTX 780 Ti 12GB Graphics Card

AMD have had a great show this last few weeks, but Nvidia wasn’t about to take AMDs new card launches without a fight! So enter to the gaming battlefield, the newly announced GTX 780 Ti.

The GTX 780 Ti is based on the GK110 GPU core and has been widely speculated to be a 770 Ti, but no, Nvidia have gone one better and done the 780 Ti and it’s a beast! Packed with all the latest features to excite your inner gamer, we have Nvidia G-Sync, Nvidia GameWork, Nvidia ShadowPlay and GameStream.

vidia say their new card is built for 4K and 4K surround and while we don’t have raw hardware details at this time, it is expected to pack 2880 Cuda cores, 384-bit memory interface and up to 12GB of GDDR5 memory. It looks pretty much the same as a Titan or stock 780, even featuring the same 6+8 pin power connectors.

We expect the card to cost around $700 and Nvidia say the card could be out as soon as next month! As always, we will bring you more details on this new GPU as soon as we have them.

Sorry but to say all this new stuff is to allow them to sell cards at the prices they have been selling the currant cards for, for the last 7 months is a really stupid thing to say. they have been selling these cards for those prices for 7 months and people have been buying them, they don't need a few bolt on goodies to help sell them.
