NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Its obvious isn’t it? That’s what makes the 3090 even worse value. It’s only 10% faster than a 3080 are more than twice the price.

Nvidia will already have next gen silicone in testing e.g. a 4080. If it’s only 10% faster than a 3080 Nvidia will be in trouble, serious trouble. It’s fairly clear to me that a 4080 isn’t going to have any trouble beating a 3090 in performance.

Given how much closer the cards are together this generation you are going to see the lower-mid range cards with =>3090 performance next time round. The gap between the 3070 and 3090 is about the same as the gap between the 2080 and the 2080ti last time round (30%ish).

Unless they intentionally hinder the 80 series and below cards, I can easily see a 4070 having a decent bump over a 3090 and an equivalent 4060ti will be close to or better than. The problem is if they do hinder them, they’ll have very little uplift over the 30 series and no one will buy them like what happens with the 20 series.

£1500+ GPU owners just need to reside themselves to the fact that you’ll get the same or better performance for £400-£500 next time round.

So you are just speculating and guessing.

Yes I know the 3090 is terrible value vs the 3080, never disputed that, that's why I have a 3080. It's just not the worst value. That's all I was saying in the beginning.

Probably is, doesn’t mean they can’t officially announce it though at this event in January.

Aye true, they would need to grease the wheels and dangle the carrot, however they couldn't do it too early otherwise all the 3080 buyers would be livid especially if some have been waiting months in queues to get them and six weeks later a better option materialises..

Don’t think nvidia care. Just look what happened to 2080Ti users :p

Imagine if you got one a few months before the 3080 launch. Then 3080 comes out and offers much better performance and at half the price. Lol.

But majority of vocal defenders are the early buyers saying they had them for 'ages' and were way better than the 2080. The people who got screwed over were the ones that couldnt send straight back on distance buying etc. so people that bought the card 1-2 months before 3080 dropped.

To be fair if you got it on launch it is not as bad. But still that has got to sting a little, especially when one could have just sold it a month before nvidia launched the 3080. That said, the crazy demand and scalping has made getting a card harder near launch, so if you are the type that plays multiplayer then selling may not be an option.

For people like me who are happy to go 6-12 months waiting while playing some older games in their steam library, it is not an issue. That is why right now I will enjoy all the demanding games, then sell my 3080 in 18 months or so and get something like a 1070 on the cheap to play older games while waiting on next gen cards to release (add extra £100-£200 on top and you have latest tech again). Way I see it is a 1070 can max out a big portion of my steam library at 4K, so plenty of choice while waiting :D

Pretty much. I had a 2080ti since launch day. It legitimately gave me the best gaming experience at the time (simracing vr and 1440/120). As my VR got a massive fidelity upgrade with the G2 and along with CP2077 brought my 2080ti down to it's knees, the 3090 gave me the experience bump the 2080ti had given me two years prior. Without those two compelling events I'd have no reason to upgrade and wouldn't have.

Why people on here worry so much about how others spend their money is beyond me.

I think your VR and demanding settings would justify a purchase, and buying at the beginning can pay dividends (like the 1080Ti before). This is why this gen I wasnt going to buy in between gen's for a 'value' purchase like I did with my Vega because in a short space of time the new refresh or gen is out and your bargain isnt so much of a bargain anymore. Im happy to upgrade every three years or thereabouts, not every year like some.

This is why the minority of the 'gonna wait for the 3080Ti' band make me laugh.

Because apparently you are keeping prices too high above RRP for everyoe else. They dont want to pay current demand prices so are up in arms at those that just get on with it. £100-£200 over RRP whilst in lockdown and to just crack on with some high end gaming experiences is just a no-no to some. Makes them angry and upset and they call these people stupid, brainless etc etc. They also shout at the moon. :D

I know and when the FE prices are locked and the cheapest you can get them at, cant see why the aggression is justified, could understand it for a gouged ASUS Strix or something..
