NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

That would still only put a 3080Ti at 60fps-80fps level, at a native 4K (no DLSS) when running a game like Control, maxed out...nice improvement, for sure. But $1200-$1500 worth of an improvement?

Not everyone is a twitch gamer. You can test this for yourself: a RTX 2080 Ti will play Quake RTX in the high 20s at 4k so 60 fps at 4K should be on. And RTX graphics are awesome.

But I reckon it will be the next generation - Hopper - that sees RTX enter the mainstream.

It's hard to tell or judge what the next gen card prices will be, but if rumored performance is any where close to whats being leaked i'd say prices for the top card will be around £1000+, 7nm process will undoubtedly give a substantial performance uplift over Turing's 12nm process. But with the current covid dilemma its likely whatever's announced will cost a pretty penny, I'm still looking forward to the 14th in any case.

Prepare to be underwhelmed when there's no mention whatsoever about a gaming GPU. Maybe a name drop if they're not going to be Ampere and called something else instead but I doubt we'll hear anything of real value sadly.

Nvidia have made no announcements and kept their cards close to their chest so far, and yet we're still scouring the internet for leaks and news. Do they need to drop any hints yet? Or are they still keeping things up their sleeves in case AMD surprise us all?

Until their old 2000 series cards start to run low in stock they won’t say much.

Yeah, you're right, every generation there are the rumours and each time its touted as game changing or providing significant increases in performance.

What I'm enjoying right now is that, probably now more than at any other point in the last 5 years, I feel AMD could actually offer some competition without us expecting it. The hard evidence surrounding a product line isn't there yet for AMD but with their track record of improvement over the past few years and their current position (taking a good chunk of the CPU market, buying up a large portion of 7nm stock before nvidia, getting RDNA out there and making sure RDNA2 is always fresh in our minds and the monopoly on console APU's), I wouldn't doubt them. 3 or 4 years ago, I would've written them off.

In the same context, 2 years ago, cut me and i would've bled Nvidia green but now i'm pootling along on my RX5700 and it's been faultless.

Putting all the covid stuff to one side and the inevitable slow down that brings, I'm really hoping there's a decent bit of back and forth with performance and price points for GPU's over the next 6 to 12 months between both parties. They both seem to be in a position to go head to head.

I have hopes for AMD as well to bring a nice big navi card to compete with NVidia.

I am a bit more causious though, a lot of people see how AMD made a great comeback in the CPU field against Intel and think that will happen in the GPU end. Well Nvidia isn't Intel stuck on 14nm+++++infinity, their nodes are working fine, yes they are milking it like intel did before Ryzen but nvidia doesn't have a competitor on high end. They also have loads of cash for R&D and don't have to also spend money to make x86 cpus.

Time and time again Amd wasn't as good in the gpu field. High hopes and big dissappointments with Fury, and Vega, and no big gpu above 5700xt. If i had paid normal price or current prices for Vega I would be really happy actually but initial pricing because of mining was close to 1080ti money but i couldn't find one of those either...

I am a Vega 56 owner and enjoy the performance over my geforce 680 and i really hope big navi comes and provides a good competition. I was frustrated when i saw how expensive the 2000 nvidia series was and that in my mind it didnt bring anything performance wise compared to the 1000 series it replaced for the same money. Ie a 1080ti is roughly a 2080 and their prices were the same when released.

Time will tell and can't wait for either new gen product to come up so we can get more performance. Tv's since last year already have hdmi 2.1 and can do 4k 120 so we need gpus to feed that.

Yeah getting itchy but seems to be taking forever.

same for me, around a week today we'll know what NVIDIA have, if nothing else, to see the full power of ampere in a new dgx server will be something to see XD, i hope consumer cards are teased/shown but who knows what will go down, I'm still hopeful as Jensen said "get amped"

got around 2k i can spend so IF the cards and waterblocks are available i may bite, time will tell :)

a Titan if you are lucky, but more likely just more general tech that Nvidia will use to hype investment and confidence in their brand.

i couldn't really justify a titan for gaming sure it would be great, but i'd need a 4k display to really push it. 1440p is more than enough now, from my budget if there's anything left i may look at 4th gen ryzen towards the end of the year too :)

Wonder if 3070 will be good enough to max out 1440p 120hz. Hopefully get Ryzen 4, 3070 and lg 48" CX.....should be great combo.

well if the leaks are to be believed the 3070 should be on par with a 2080 ti, but at lower power levels, the 3080 is said to be around a rtx titan with a reported 4608 cuda cores and the 3080ti is said to have 8k cuda cores (don't think that will ever happen but if so price will be massive).
Depending on whats said i may go for something that is on par with my 2080ti but at a lower power draw, plus 7nm will help with overclocking too, if prices aren't too bad then i may look higher and if able may look at the next titan (saying that if its over 2k then I'll pass)

I get you, some of us could spend £2k on a card but I think there comes a point when we have to say enough is enough. Me personally I will not spend more than £750 on a card.....just can't justify it to myself.

It all obviously depends on the game and how demanding they are. Some games will run at 120hz yes, but on more demanding games with RT you will have no chance to get 120hz at highest graphical fidelity and will need to lower some settings. 120hz is nice to have and reach, but not a necessity for good gaming, especially with gsync/VRR.
