NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Hm, might skip this gen if these price rumours are true, keep my b grade 2070 super for strategy games and buy an xbox x series.

Best time to buy a console is when they just come out as they will be a bit more competitive with pc gpus.

Then once the xbox gets slow/aged in a few years I will sell it and get whatever gpu is out then and go back to just the PC.

This plan largely depends on how much the new xbox will be though :p.

I think £600 is the rumour which is still fairly decent.

The more I think, I feel the same. If the 3090 is £1400 I’ll keep my 2080Ti and just get ps5 instead. Perhaps wait for pricing to drop or wait for next gen.

Which card is likely going to be best performance for the money? The 3080? Or have they likely now priced all the cards in a way that there's no price/performance sweet spot?

It's not too bad, albeit awkward for air cooling the CPU I imagine. What I'm curious is, do the supposed prices have the 20/16GB variants in mind or will that be extra? And will the 3070 be = 2080 ti in performance. Hmmm.

I was thinking the same thing, some AIB cards are just as big if not bigger...

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted in here https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-spe... GA102 GPU uses the, mapping units and 96 ROPs.

7552 Shaders. 400 Watt TDP, the 2080TI has a 250 Watt TDP which is 275 watts in reality so expect this to be ~450 Watts.

My thoughts for AMD's competitive outlook. From the Navi 23 thread.

7552 Shaders. vs 4,352 on the 2080TI, that's +73%, that should make it about ~50% faster than the 2080TI.

Also. TDP, 400 Watts, vs 250 Watts 2080TI.

Ok, lets says there is no "80 CU RDNA2" lets say its 64 CU, AMD have done 64 CU's many times before lets assume that's it.

5700XT = 40 CU @ 1900Mhz

Big Navi 64 CU's = +60%
The PS5 runs at 2.23Ghz: vs the 5700XT that's + 17%

Lets round Big Navi up to 2.3Ghz because if the PS5 can do 2.23Ghz i'm sure Big Navi can do at least 2.3Ghz.

The 2080TI is 30% faster than the 5700XT.

Big Navi +60% Shaders + 21% clocks = 5700XT + 81% at 0.7 Scaling = +57% actual.

So a 64 CU 2.3Ghz Big Navi would be about 30% faster than a 2080TI, GA102 would be 20% faster again.

This assuming 0 IPC gain RDNA2 vs RDNA1.

I'm still unsure by if I should get one or not, I'm not sure with my 1080i and old CPU if it's worth upgrading to a new rig with a 3080/3090 and a new CPU. Looking forward to seeing some scores!

Just saw the size of that card and price, lol if NVIDIA think I am paying £1500 for a card.

I am buying ps5 and keeping my 1080Ti, will wait till AMD is competitive. By the size of this thing you can tell NVIDIA was really worried about Big Navi. I assume AMD should be competitive next round. This rou d i doubt AMD can top that monster 3090.

no doubt about it 3090 is going it be crazy fast, if AMD can match the 3080 they are lucky.

almost £1500 for a gfx card lol.

I only use my PC for F1 or rocket league nowadays on the ultra wide monitor. Don't play any other competitive multiplayer any more as I've not got the time to be 'great' at any game like I used to be.

Cyberpunk the only new game I'll have yet to play from my collection because I pre ordered that ages ago for cheap and every game I play on my PC have been controller games any way.

I'm already getting the XSX to use on my OLED regardless but keeping my 1080ti going perhaps until the 'supers' refresh for ampere sounds relatively appealing if these are going to be expensive, run hot and potentially have memory issues.

Would love the 3080 to be a great 4K ultra 60fps card. Can see the 3090 being an awful value proposition.

Well here's the thing.

The XBox Series X APU has 52 CU's running at 1900Mhz and an 8 core 16 thread Zen 2 CPU, the whole package power is 170 Watts. that's + 30% more CU's at the same clock speed and a Ryzen 3700X for about the same power as a 5700XT. so RDNA2 is much more efficient, probably about "50% better Performance per watt"

That APU is about as quick as a 2080TI, take out 50 watts for the CPU and you have a 120 Watt 2080TI, the whole XBox APU is also only about 330mm2, again take out the CPU and you have a 250mm2 120 Watt 2080TI.

Oh yeah, Nvidia are worried.

Scaling is slightly off with all these, the connectors don't line up.

Here is one scaled properly:

Notice how the fan is now not quite round and the card seems elongated? Some dodgy image manipulation going on in these pictures.
