**Nvidia G-Sync owners thread**

Some updates on my end.

Tweaks to get Gsync working better:
  • Ensure that your mouse polling rate is set to 1000hz. See blur busters article here.
  • Ensure that you set render frames ahead = 1
  • Internally cap your framerate for 144hz users to 135fps. More information here.

Regarding ULMB, I learnt at blurbusters that reducing from 100 down to 20 almost reduces all lag and after trying it out it was amazing - although after hours of gsync use I could definitely notice the tearing. I suspect this is in part due to the fact that I can't get enough FPS but not sure. The only downside is the brightness.

So the good news for me is that the gsync experience is much better now - I would say the degree of lag is on par with ULMB @ 50->100. However, after playing around with ULMB at lower settings I could really feel the responsiveness. If nvidia do work out how to combine these two technologies the experience would be flawless.

Does that mean that although the 4k monitors are set to 60hz, with Gsync it will just as smooth if not better than the current 120/144mhz monitors?

I would have that if the monitor is completely asynchronous with the GPU the 60hz Should look/feel as good as 120hz ?

That's the way I read into it!

Not really when i first tried skyrim i capped it to 60fps and it didn't feel as smooth as 120 only 75fps did

im guessing the main benefit of 60hz g-sync is if it drops down from 60 it wont drop to 30fps it will drop to 45hz 55hz 57hz etc

My setup doesn't like it.

I have the Swift and a 30" Dell on DVI, also running Tri SLI.

Have to disable the Dell to get G-Sync and ULMB modes running smooth in fullscreen.

I have had weird issues in the past with running fullscreen SLI and a 2nd display with other stuff going on though so it may just be my setup.

G-Sync works with the GTX 650 and up, see here http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/technology/g-sync/supported-gpus

No joy here trying to run a mini map on a 2nd screen :(

Ah well, there go's that plan lol :p

Wonder how it would react using a pair of Gsync capable displays? As I plan to replace this 24" 120hz with one of the 27" 144hz acer's to run along side the acer 4k.

Hi, did you do anything special to get Dark souls 2 working with G-Sync? I can for the life of me not get it to activate G-Sync, feels like I have tried everything and double-checked every setting. It somehow feels like the game is running some kind of borderless windowed full-screen, but I cant find anywhere to activate/deactivate something like that.

Nevermind, solved it... sort of: I completely reinstalled Windows and after that it works in Dark Souls 2. I guess I had some weird settings somewhere that didnt go away, even with a complete video driver uninstall/reinstall.

How odd, but nice to see you managed to fix it.

This was my next plan - to try a 144hz.

But thinking about it - yours maybe the way to go (be it a little extreme)

For me it was the price of the swift combined with the timing of the Acer 4k pre-order and its price in contrast. Once I'd worked out how much we were paying in USD vs the yanks we were paying over $400 more. Though I feel a little remorse now having seen all the glowing reviews of the swift, I'm sure that will change when my Acer arrives :)

Tbh I didn't expect to see a 4k gsync monitor out so soon either, let alone it being so cheap!

yeah the Acer is looking very promising pg, I'm very tempted myself:)

Added to the OP :)

@ Ash - G-Sync and my enjoyment of 4K gaming was what swayed me. When you play games like Tomb Raider at 4K, it is just jaw droppingly good. I ordered the Acer 4K screen the day after it went live on pre-orders and can't wait (as I guess we all can't).

Having gamed at 4K, I found it hard to go back but still reckon I will be playing BF4 at 1080P, as I am bad enough at that res and 4K I couldn't get a decent mouse DPI and was just missing everybody badly.

As I've delayed upgrades I know a new monitor will mean new graphics cards so this seems like the right time for me to go 4K Gregster. Glad to hear you've been enjoying the enhanced experience makes it even more tempting:)

What's going to happen to your current 4K set up Gregster? is Mrs Greg going to be updated to the 4K experience:eek::D

So in a way a regular TN non 4k monitor with 120hz - 144hz is still a better performance than 4k monitors at 60 hz with gsync?

I would have thought at least tearing stuttering and quality of the picture would be better with 4k+gsync?

Monitor was sold on the MM bud. I did ask if he would loan it back to me till I got the Acer but he wouldn't :D

Why did you sell, to get a G-Sync one.

Civ5 on my Dell monitor is awesome @4K and the colours are top knotch too.:D

Having said that Civ5 is not really a game that benefits from G-Sync but for games that do it will be well worth having.:)

Bored of Civ 5 and want the new one now :) Not that G-Sync will do anything and Mantle will be a great addition for the 'huge maps' :D

The wait must be terrible Gregster:( but the thought of G-Sync goodness with all the good feedback must be helping you through:cool::D

It's cool and I have only really been playing BF4 and enjoying it. I do hate waiting for things though but 5 weeks today isn't too bad :)

So comparing the asus to acer doesn't make sense really. Ultimately its going to come down to budget and if you value 4K @ 60hz over 2560x1440 @ 144hz - and ofcause what type of games you play. Clearly the 4K would be great for MMO's.

If the input lag is good on the 4k gsync monitors they could be decent for FPS gaming. Having only 1 display port seems to have really helped half the input lag on the SWIFT compared to normal 120/144hz panels. Of course going from 120/144hz back to 60hz is a no go for some people but anyone upgrading from a 60hz 1080p/1440p to 4k should be fairly happy I presume, or anyone who isn't fussed about being competitive in FPS.

I don't think it's the 60hz that would affect my scores, they didn't really change between 60hz and 144hz when I changed it was just easier on the eye, the biggest difference would be aiming well at 4k res, we all know lower resolutions still seem best, people still play CS at silly low resolutions.
