**Nvidia G-Sync owners thread**

Can someone explain what happens a Gsync monitor is used on a PC not capable of achieving the refresh rate of that monitor?

For example I run FO4 on Ultra apart from the odd setting and it looks stunning but get no more than 60fps (maybe this is the wrong game to explain as FO4 has a problem above 60fps), what would happen on a 144Hz Gsync monitor with Gsync on? Would it still run at 60 ish fps but still benefit from the non tearing features?

As I tend to run games at Ultra settings I rarely achieve more than 60fps so would a 144Hz monitor even be worth it?
Andi.

As long as your game is running within the G-Sync window you will benefit from G-Sync, The G-Sync window is roughly anywhere from 1 to 30 depending on the monitor.

G-Sync does its thing from 1 to maximum monitor refresh rate (I have a ROG Swift which is 144Hz, so in my instance it is 1 to 144 fps). Anything between these numbers is being G-Synced and keeping things as smooth as possible.

Love G-Sync! Recently got the 100hz ASUS Ultrawide and wow it makes things nicer, though I expect in part that's also due to the higher refresh rate. Used the LG 3440 x 1440 panel before (which the ASUS's panel is actually identical to) and comparing the two in the same situation, G-Sync does help things feel smoother. I think it will increase the life of the GPU's as they will not feel quiet as behind on newer titles I would imagine.

Very nice stuff :)

Best Gsync monitor for 1440p?

I am thinking of getting this:

Dell S2716DG 27"

I know it's a TN but it looks great and I don't move around just sit infront of my monitor dead straight on. IPS just seems to cost so much more, is it really worth it?

I am using this monitor so far

Samsung S27A750D
which is a LED backlit LCD monitor.
I'm guessing the Dell would be a nice upgrade? I know id be better asking in monitor section but kinda applies here because its a gsync monitor :P

I'm using DSR and every time I switch above my native resolution the refresh rate switches to 60. I need to hit the turbo button to get it to 120 or 144.

Is this a bug? I don't usually use DSR but been trying it out tonight as I'm going through some older games that aren't taxing my card too much.

Having tried 3 different G-sync 1440p monitors including an acer 1440p 165hz IPS i would put my monitor on the Dell. Yes its TN but its a very good TN. Now i would have prefered IPS but to me there is just so many negatives with the current models to justify the extra cost. Also the blur seems a lot worse the lower you go down in fps when in g-sync mode on the IPS vs TN. I was getting headaches due to it. I miss the colors of the acer ips though.. They were better and had a cartain pop to them that every TN i have seen has yet to accomplish.

Gsync is up there with ssds when it comes to gaming performance....

Love my x34

However csgo totally sucks with gsync... But its easily turned off in ncp game profiles :)

I personally still think g-sync is overrated, there are negatives people seem to forgot to mention when they recommend it such as image persistence causing heavy blur the lower the framerate just to get the ball rolling. Ive tried turning g-sync off for a day and sure i noticed it but i didnt care that much to go back into the ncp to turn it on. Is it a nice feature? yes certainly, the frosting on the cake but imho not the end all be all of gaming. I rather have a 120 or 144hz non g-sync panel than a 60hz g-sync if i had to choose.

Running at 4k with a single titan x gsync is a game changer, just played through the new tomb raider getting between 30-60 fps and never once did I notice the frame rate lagging.

Dont get me wrong, im happy on your behalf that you can enjoy sub 45-50 fps using gsync but to me personally having experience sub 40 in The division it just feels bad with gsync (and ofcourse without but for a different reason). Same goes for every other titled ive tried so fare. Once your down in that lower end of sub 45 and the monitor has to hold an image for upwards of 33ms it becomes very noticeable to me and it is an unpleasant experience. Im actually surprised no one else is feeling the same way about it but i guess thats a good thing for everyone except me :P.

I have to agree, I'd prefer to have 45fps+ even at the expense of a little detail but at 4k it is looking fantastic and still very smooth :)

Saying that I'm back on my X34 and 80-100fps is sooooooooooooooo much nicer!!! Really torn between the 2 if I'm honest :(

There is no current Nvidia capable GSYNC (kept it on topic.....) GPU that could drive 4k with 120hz at the moment I would tend to wait for the GPU before going with the monitor. OLED or no OLED.

Lower some settings and with the 14nm coming might be close to it, at least if you had one of those you'd know that the monitor was decent for the next 5 years, not ideal I know.

Let me help you then :) ultrawide all the way. We need to push broader support for this epic aspect ratio, yes im looking at you blizzard and your silly reason for not properly supporting it.
