**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

I haven't been around here much for a while... but am baffled by how people can think the current prices of GPU's are OK?

When I got 980ti, it was already pushing the limits of sensible pricing.

Now we have had the GTX 970 "equivalent" costing in the same range as the 980ti, and the 1080 ti is now pushing £200 more than the 980 ti was (roughly)

Brexit can only be blamed so much... is it simply a case of nvidia went down Intels route of pricing things such simply "because" ?

Lets' hope Vega knocks some sense back into all this, like Ryzen seems to able to do for CPU's

Yeah modern GPU pricing is just getting ridiculous now. Hope Vega does a Ryzen too :)

Don't forget db scale is logarithmic - 2.5db drop is a reasonable amount.
Not really. When normal breathing is rated at around 10dB and whispering at 2 meters away is 20dB. 2.5 is not really that noticable at all.
Do you notice and hear people breathing from half a meter away? 10dB right there. Maybe in a noise isolated room with literally zero noise other than the person breathing yes. However in a case where other electronics produce noise and then there is fans. Not in the slightest i'm afraid.

Pricing in the US for Nvidia cards with the price cut is still ridiculous.

But in the UK? Oh dear...prices are so damn absurd I can't take anyone getting excited about this seriously.

How on earth can 1080s still cost £700 here AFTER price cuts!? I remember I bought my EVGA 980 for £350 several months after release. Now to get the same tier card I have to pay DOUBLE. Lol my god.

I am confused, what's stopping you from buying one of the discounted 1080s and get the cashback as well? That's pretty good value right there ... and they start at 524 - 50. I may not be a math genius but I am pretty sure you don't need to pay 700 ...

There are already some on the bgrade section for near £400 so a good bargain tbh if anyone is after a 1080 as these prices have already changed.

Will be a buy from me - feel like i have been hanging onto my 970 forever!

I'd feel similarly, but...

When is the proper Nvidia refresh happening? I think I'm holding off for the following reasons:

1. See what Vega brings.
2. Not convinced current 10 series are true DX12 cards.
3. Prices for the 1070 are still higher than I am willing to pay.
4. My 970 is still actually doing the biz.

This person is playing it smart and I'll do the same thing. Except my 970 is no longer sufficient. Mainly because I want to play 1440p to make the most of my MG279Q monitor.

Lol.

$699 = £699
$100 = £30

Got to love the dysfunctional UK retail market.

Might as well move to America, at least housing is cheaper there too. More bang for buck too. Except there's the issue that Americans aren't too bright. Look at their politics...

can someone explain why at a price of 699 dollars, that would make ours worth 568.227 according to current exchange rate, why are we being charged 650-700 for it?

The exchange rate isn't that black and white unfortunately you would have to add tax and other stuff on top.

With uk 20% tax that is still £680

Ah the land of guns,
That's a really good price tbh and you can use the step up program as well if you wanted a Ti.

pretty good time to make use of StepUp

import tax? so that rules out my suggestion of buying it from the states then :p

No you can buy it from the states and bring it back at that price you are suppose to declare this and pay tax but..........

American states have various taxes depending on the state they have to declare there taxes of purchases at the end of the tax year hence why its cheaper at the till.

People do this for cameras and other stuff (ipods phones etc)when they go on holiday over the usa and just say they brought it over when they came there isn't any proof they didn't might be a bit harder with a gfx card in your bag lol but i guess streamers and you tubers get freebies all the time so can't see a different as they didn't buy it.

My last card was a 980Ti and I was just looking at Techpowerup's review for the Titan XP and in almost all of the benchmarks the Titan XP was at least 75% faster than the 980Ti.

So this 1080Ti should give almost 2x the performance of a 980Ti when overclocked? that's some serious power..now I'm getting tempted to get this 1080Ti even though £700 is a lot of money.
