I exampled this once in a thread and got flamed for it as no one believed it happens like this.
Nvidia may announce a product early or late but what really effects 3rd party cards is when Nvidia pass on details to said vendors and take chip orders.
I stated with the Ti that Nvidia told 3rd party vendors about the actual card very very late, some thought the new Workstation card was going to change everything, but it didn't. This leads to Vendors having to buy FE cards under their own name from NV as well as rush into production there own. Yes most like asus, Gigabyte, MSI have a uniform PCB like the Gaming X/ Strix which is easier to modify to accept new chip, throwing on the same cooler can also cut time, but then you have EVGA and FTW3 which is building from the ground up .
NV are here to make money, they make more money from people buying FE early from themselves and vendors. end of story. and its gotten worse from 900 series with the Titan being locked only to themselves. Im sure Gibbo mentioned this also heard OCUK sales from the 900 series.
almost temps me to find the thread and laugh at everyones comment with " told you so"
and so nvidia will continue this streak with next gen as well. with the 1080/70 they had massive bad timings with Chinese holidays and yeah, couldn't get enough chips stock piled. but im expecting 1180/70 and Ti to be just as bad as this series.
wind is Vega could be same as Titan being reference design only but allow AIB to sell under their brand... time will tell. I hope not
