Maybe you misread what I posted, I am suggesting that the 870 will be about £300, with the 880 coming in at about £400 maybe $450.

I was not refering to the specific model, but rather a card that beat GTX780Ti coming in at around £300 is unrealistic.

The only reason why GTX670 and and GTX680 was around £330 and £400 was because it was late to the market and AMD already hard cards there; looking at the launch of GTX780...no equivalent AMD exist in the same space, and it asked for £550-£630 on launch.

Obviously clocks are missing which can effect performance a lot.

If these were both on kepler and at the same clocks i would probably put my money on the 780ti but as it's Maxwell and going to be called the 8 series i doubt it's going to be slower than the 780ti.

Why? New cards come out, old slower cards prices drop. The 680 was released in March/April 2012 for £430 odd. August 2013 saw them going for £200 to clear stock.

No chance. There would be no point. By slower than a 780Ti that means the 880 may be around the performance of the 780...but then they would just be releasing a card with the same power as a 780...but called the 880.

We will probably get the 870 and 880 in October, The 870 will be around the same performance as the 780ti but for ~£300 and then the 880 will be better performing than a 780Ti and be around £400+.

Then in early 2015 we will get an 800 series Titan, then we will get a 20nm 900 series near the end of 2015. The 880 will become the 970 but have slightly faster clocks and a full fat 20nm 980 will come out... a few months before an even faster 980Ti.

Even the specs are poor compared to a 780ti. The GTX 880 has a few more CUDA cores but the rest of the spec is poor. I would go as far as to say NVidia are taking the recycled lager giving the cards a 256bit bus.

We all want cheap fast cards but this is not what NVidia do.

While the Spec is lower compared to the 780ti apart from the higher shader count you also have to take into consideration that it's Maxwell v Kepler so there is a good bit of unknown here.

I can see Nvidia skipping through the 800 series quickly if the "top end parts" are still 28nm. Might be a marketing decision as they could easily rename the newer faster 20nm stuff to the titan range or something similar, as they've already established a sub branding.

The GTX680 was only launched at that price because it was late to the market, 3 months behind the launch of 7970...

Unless AMD launch ahead of them again, they will not be so conservative on the pricing. They will just be waving the "faster than/as fast as 290x", and then charge higher price than it.

I agree with other...EOL pricing on the GTX780/GTX780Ti is probably the ones worth looking out for rather than the GTX880...

which company doesn't? if it's a 10% increase then many will consider it a great upgrade, price/performance is all subjective anyhow

When the 600 series came out the 680 wasn't a mid range card, it was Nvidia's flagship.

In reality it was their midrange card sold as the flagship when they worked out it was faster than the 7970. This forced AMD to respond with the 290 & 290X whereby nvidia finally brought out the 780TI which was the original, rumored top tier card.

The way that nvidia played out Kepler was genius in my opinion.

Still pretty convinced that we will see an 870 with 780Ti performance for ~ £300 and an 880 that is 20-25% faster than a 780 Ti for £400-£450.

it's been said already, but what a silly thing to say. it's still a 350-450 pound card that runs everything fine @ 1440p

for anyone on older cards then this is a perfect upgrade - you don't have to rush out and buy the first product on launch.
