The 290x has NEVER been 50% faster than the top nVidia card with the same power usage.

It was actually a wash with the titan at higher power usage, then slower than the 780ti with higher power usage.

980ti is 50% faster than 290x with the same power, and a MUCH better reference cooler than anything AMD ever thought up meaning it can actually keep cool without deafening you.
 
Really makes the titan x a bit worthless but oh well, should be a good card. Going to wait and see what AMD offers to make Nvidia want to throw the titans under the bus so soon but this is a good card from Nvidia without the gimps and without the titan pricing!!

glad I never bought a titan with the way Nvidia overprice and they undercut it's own cards so fast. Possibly going to wait until the next set of cards so Nvidia play there hand with the new proper DX12 (rather than just first bash at it) cards and also hopefully have the die shrinks and whatnot.

Amused that all the reviews as always skip over noise. This design stock HSF is very whiny after it hits 80c & highly noticeable.

Now the long wait for a decent Asus/MSI HSF model :(
 
From the sounds of it, looks like I may have a reason to watercool after all if the ti runs within 10 degrees of my 290x :P
 
If someone sold a Ford fiesta that got 35mpg, I'd laugh at it and call it uneconomical.

If someone sold a Bugatti Veyron that got 35mpg, I'd think it was amazing, well designed, economical, and a miracle of engineering.
