** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

I'm finding the whole fiasco hilarious. If you think the price in extortionate then blame all the fanboys turned salesmen who tirelessly recommended the gimped 970 over the 390, etc and constantly defend Nvidia. Some are now hoping AMD brings some competition lol.

It's karma I tell ya.

Lol, who recommends a 970 over a 390 here? :o

I will be putting a block on it.

But is it not an issue with OC'ing with just the one power connector? I thought a big aspect of WC'ing a GPU was so that you could really push that OC and keep temps down. With just one 8-pin connector, this will surely be a limitation of the FE?

Not reasonably priced at all. Couldn't have imagined a situation like this several years ago, where £650 is considered a viable launch price for a new top line chip, let alone what is conceivably only a mid-high end card. Prices should go up with inflation. Hope the market does not permit Nvidia to sustain this price or have the audacity to attempt something similar in the future.

It is proven at the minute to be the problem with the FE apart from temps. Even with a hybrid cooler. As shown by gaming nexus. The card still hit 120% power limit at 2165mhz. You could custom flash the cards to squeeze every last watt out of the 150w 8pin but a 6+8pin would be far better for OCing.

The card needs another connector to get higher than 2.1GHz but just the stock FE appears to be throttling so it would definitely need better cooling just to maintain anything over 1.8GHz.

Wow pricing is getting beyond crazy, no way on earth I would remotely entertain that kind of money for a GPU

Look forward to seeing what Polaris and the 1070 bring to the table but with the way its going I'll be priced out of PC gaming before long

I'm waiting after seeing these prices, no way I can justify £630~ on a card, much prefer the custom coolers personally. Easy decision for me.

That is your perception but it would be wrong.

Because of comments like yours I will go back to doing what I did long before I was on any forums. I was using high end systems solely for my own use and never shared the details with anyone, not even my friends, family or workmates.

I did think this was an enthusiasts forum but people like you have proved me wrong.

Or you could just carry on and not give two craps about what any of us think?

It's not like any of us really care what you do with your money. As someone else said, there are other expensive hobbies.

But you shouldn't be surprised that not everybody understands or thinks the same way. I consider myself to be a tech enthusiast like you, but operating on a very different budget (by choice).

You can't say that I'm not a tech enthusiast because I don't buy 4x every card that gets released :p

But you absolutely shouldn't be at all surprised, when you start defending these new nVidia prices, that you get a fair bit of push-back from people like me. Because these new prices are INSANE.

I have seen the GTX 680 quoted as well.

I think the 1080 is a bit overpriced but people need to step back and get a better view.

The 1080 gives slightly better performance than a 980 Ti and can be bought for about the same money as an up market 980 Ti.

A month ago people were quite happy to pay over £600 for a 980 Ti and yet for the same money a 1080 performs a little better.

Also to put things in perspective I paid around £960 for each of my GTX 980 Ti's.

What you've got to do (Which you seem unable to) is distinguish the difference between you (An obsessive) and a typical (and sane) buyer of higher end GPUs.

I spent a ridiculous amount of money on audio/visual, it drives my wife insane. To her, the difference between a £500 5.1 set and £3000 is inaudible. Then again, i accept the fact i'm obsessive about it and what i'm actually getting for my money isn't defend-able. It's a personal thing to me.

In the same vein, the 1080 is ridiculously overpriced... However, to some people in that "obsessive" bracket it isn't, mainly as it's a purchase more driven by their desire than financial sense.

I am not defending these NVidia prices and have already said a couple of times that they are not good. Having said that the 1080s do perform better than the fastest 980 Ti's and are cheaper than the top AIB Maxwell cards so we also have to take that into account.

I would like to think that everyone is an enthusiast on these forums and should not be judged on what hardware they use.

You get a free game its called steam wheres theres loads to choose from hehe.

Kaap i dont think were all enthusiasts here, sure we like hardware but not enough to put more money than really is needed into our pcs. Theres a dozen or two, or so high spenders that post a lot in the gfx card section and thats it, that is the level of enthusiasts here with hundreds of pounds worth of gfx cards. Rest of us use more reasonably priced hardware say 670, 290, 380, 680, etc cards or less.

Usually I find some of your posts to seem insane, but I agree with this one :p

Next week you will be able to buy a 1080 for less money than the fastest GTX 980 Ti and the Pascal card will be faster too.

Does this mean all the people who bought the GTX 980 Ti were obsessive for buying overpriced cards.
