** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

Imo yeah about the 980ti, anything over 300 notes to buy for high end is ridiculous. Sensible buys would be 200 max and most ppl could probably go for a card around 150 max area like i do.

I find the prices okay to be honest but then again I paid £16 for a small jar of honey today. I would have course rather they be cheaper but I can understand why not.

It's something I want to try, like the expensive honey :D, so will be picking one up.

You get a free game its called steam wheres theres loads to choose from hehe.

Kaap i dont think were all enthusiasts here, sure we like hardware but not enough to put more money than really is needed into our pcs. Theres a dozen or two, or so high spenders that post a lot in the gfx card section and thats it, that is the level of enthusiasts here with hundreds of pounds worth of gfx cards. Rest of us use more reasonably priced hardware say 670, 290, 380, 680, etc cards or less.

You can be an enthusiast even if you use nothing better than integrated graphics.:)

Loads of people are motor racing enthusiasts but very few will ever get to drive a F1 car.:)

I am not defending these NVidia prices and have already said a couple of times that they are not good. Having said that the 1080s do perform better than the fastest 980 Ti's and are cheaper than the top AIB Maxwell cards so we also have to take that into account.

I would like to think that everyone is an enthusiast on these forums and should not be judged on what hardware they use.

I'm going to defend Kaap little here. I've been around for a few years and I've not seen him brag once. He does what we all do, show pics, talk about what we've bought etc. It's everybody else that goes mental about his much stuff he buys. He had also stated in the past that he doesn't waste money on other junk that people buy,(please correct kaap if I've made that up) I do the same. Just get on with your lives and understand some people have more or less money/sense/commitments/interests than others so people buy what they buy.

Just move on

Next week you will be able to buy a 1080 for less money than the fastest GTX 980 Ti and the Pascal card will be faster too.

Does this mean all the people who bought the GTX 980 Ti were obsessive for buying overpriced cards.

People who purchased the 980Ti did so knowing they were purchasing the Rolls Royce of Nvidias offerings, it was the cherry on top of their range. There is a certain tax that gets applied to anything which sits at the top of the heap. Like every company selling pretty much any product, Nvidia have set out a range of products which reflect the various levels of their offerings.

What Nvidia have now done is released a high end part - but in relation to their product range over each generation - not the marquee offering. They've also done so by applying quite an extraordinary price increase. Regardless of the fact the 1080Ti isn't out "yet", Nvidia have set the tone with their range.

If BMW release a new 3 series which is more efficient than the BMW 5 series of the previous generation, they don't charge the same price as a 5 series. Whilst a tenuous comparison due to the differences, you get my point.

People who buy the GTX 1080 will be getting the Rolls Royce of NVidia cards, there are none currently available that are better.

Oddly enough people who bought the GTX 980 Ti did so knowing it was not the Rolls Royce of NVidia cards but it did offer good value when compared to the TitanX.

But it isn't the Rolls Royce, in relation to their established range of products across each generation.....

I'm not sure how you don't get it, look at any technology brought on in cycles. It would be like Apple releasing an iPhone 7C for the same price as the iPhone 6S, everyone knowing the actual 7 would be coming soon. Or Intel releasing their next quad core i7 product at the same price as the previous generations Xeon price. Even if faster, It's disjointed and overpriced in relation to the range of products established each iteration.

I'm done trying to explain it to you.

Bet ya all those that sold there 980TI`s are killing them selfs now ;)
that price is ridiculess...

keeping my 2x980TI`s until later next year lol

Not really that bad... worst case scenario is get another 980ti at a small loss (or possibly gain) or get a 1070 again at a small loss or possibly gain. Overall minimal loss and basically no performance gain either. Best case scenario some decent 1080 come out from Zotac, palit etc. that will be worth getting. But no I am not exactly happy about being stuck on a 5870 and playing rocket league at minimum graphics vsync off while I am waiting.

Basically knock 50-100 off this FE amount, with any reasonable cooler like palit jetstream or zotac amp etc. That will be fine (as promised by nvidia with the $599 MSRP).

If all that is available around $599 is that galax HEAP OF ***p, then i will not be happy. The cooler on that galax looks like it would be at 83c at stock settings and throttling below the lowest boost clocks without any overclocking.

Ultimately the 1080 will end up as a mid range card but at the moment it is as good as it gets.

In the next 12 months we will see the Pascal Titan, in 10 years time there could be CPUs with integrated graphics that could thrash it.

The fastest card available at any given time is the Rolls Royce, you can not base anything on possible future releases.

Taking everything into account (VAT) the FE prices are ~£42 higher than you'd expect from US$ conversion.

Based on that I'm predicting non-FE will be £540-550 minimum... But I mean, the majority of decent non-reference cards are always higher than MSRP anyways.. So I wouldn't get my hopes up of non-FE cards being any better priced than the FE.
