** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

No doubt that many are in the same position as you, but the thing is that Nvidia is seriously milking with the ridiculous pricing...if you were to buy a 1080, you'd be paying £650 instead of what should have been £450 max.

Not £450.... a 980ti is £499 now....

How can you think that a 1080 would be less?

Ok, so thanks for the constructive feedback.

Let me answer your comments in line:

How is it blatantly obvious? It seems to me that the power draw may not actually be an issue, and the cards, if properly cooled will actually perform pretty well with a decent overclock.

While I agree that an extra 6 pin is a good idea, we don't actually know whether this is a) going to happen at all or b) make a huge difference to performance.

Actually, the reason I decided to join OCUK was to find like minded people who actually know what they are talking about and have the same passion I do; honestly I seem to find more people like you who think that calling someone a fool is ok. You wouldn't get away with it in the street my friend, so why do you think you can get away with it on the internet? Also, super grasp of grammar.

More intelligent, informed answers required. Sigh.

Cheers
EDIT: In hindsight I guess I asked to be called a fool, I guess I didn't actually expect anyone to take that so literally.

My main issue with your posts is "im buying 3 regardless" which basically translates as i have more money than sense and cba to bother looking into why everyone including Nvidia says dont buy more than 2.....

If you had taken time to read through the posts, you would have seen that AIB boards with extra power would become available, the FE is a blatant rip off and not even a good one at that and lastly Nvidia has even stated dont go for Tri-SLI.

Give the current state of SLI i definitely would not be buying 2 cards expecting massive leaps in performance over 1 card either.

But hey, its your money dude, you buy what you like, but if you come and ask advice, dont get whiney when people give you advice that is the opposite from what your hoping to hear.

If you want everyone to say "yeah man do it, buy 3 cards! Live the dream" then im sorry but its not likely to happen here :(

The best computer you could build this year would be the new broadwell E 10 core or 8 cores cpu with two 1080 Tis assuming they exist

I could only recommend the 1080 FE to billionaires that make more money per hour than they can spend

you cant really make that comment tbh, because between now and the end of the year AMD will release hardware, no one knows if their CPU's will hit before end of year either, or their Vega cards.

Landscape could be very different before end of year, but its looking more likely that it will still be Intel for CPU and an Nvidia card for GPU as main choices

I did and they deleted it anyway lol

As a heads up, you are not actually allowed to even hint at competitor pricing. As OcUK sell computer parts, I can understand their reasoning on this as well.

Having read a few comments this morning and seeing that AIB custom cards will come with 8+6, I am very tempted to wait for one of those now. Whilst I wanted to put mine on water, I would rather it had the extra power as clearly the 8 pin isn't enough for high overclocks. And thinking about it more, it would be fair to compare a Titan X Superclock to a 1080 Superclock for example? Thoughts guys please?

If your gonna stick with one card, aftermarket cooled model all the way imho. Will run way cooler/quieter which would negate the need for watercooling.

Sounds like a good plan, I think prices will be a bit better by then also

Gonna see what the 1070 becnhmarks are like and then see what AMD put out in June and take it from there really. Hoping the prices of the 1080 wont stay at £600+ for long.

I wonder how much the next gen of cards will cost....

Probably close to a grand the way things are going!

Utter madness and I will not be part of it.
I think it'll largely depend on how successful Polaris and Vega are. Nvidia simply won't be able to get away with this scummy price gouging if they turn out to be hits, whereas if they're flops like Fiji we're going to be seeing a lot more of this in the future. Fingers crossed that AMD have got things right.

Question....

I am going to buy three FE 1080's for the following reasons:

1) I'm putting together a high end build and want the best cards i can get, so price is a moot point (see below)
2) I am putting all the cards underwater - so cooling/throttling shouldn't be an issue
3) I Am only really waiting for the CPU 6950X and the 1080's and I will have (mostly) all my components, so I don't think I really want to wait for the partner cards to come out.

I will be upgrading these cards when(if?) big pascal comes out, because the expenditure already in the build makes sense for me want to keep it at top spec; so i am fine with the loss on resale/purchase - so waiting 3 months for a decent partner card is pointless when I will upgrade 6 months or so after that, I may as well have been paying with the FE card from the beginning, no?

Am I totally foolish and do I have time to wait for the partner cards - will the 6950X be released at the end of May/early June? Do we have any real indication (based on fact) when the partner cards will be released?

Thoughts please fellas.

Cheers
Ben

You can't do three-way SLI on 1080. Only two.
