** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

That's a nice boost just got to talk myself into paying 600 quid for a new gpu might wait on 1070 as that's ment to me 980ti performance and go with that for 100% increase the way it's looking now I am not paying 300 quid extra for another 30% ish performance

The only hope is Gibbos ;) with reference to AIB cards available on 27th as well.

If i can get a decent AIB with two power connectors for under £600 Im buying. Fed up with xfire on my two 290x

Like yourself, I have paid £600.00 for a GPU before, but it needs to be a custom one, with a little overclock, and better cooling and quieter.

I'm torn on this, I was all set to buy a reference card 980ti which on OCUK costs £529.99 for the 1 I want. Is this that much of an upgrade to warrant a further £105?

I would give it a few weeks for the 1080 price to settle to reasonable levels and get one then.

Or wait for the 1070 to come out / 980 ti prices to drop.

The reviews are saying 30% stock vs stock I would get the 1080 or get a secondhand 980ti of eBay bout 350 ish we silly to buy new 980ti at this point

This is pretty much where I'm at right now, I've got a 770 and I do want to upgrade my GPU. I'm looking to get smooth flowing 1440p 144mhz which I know this thing will deliver comfortably and I do want a reference (founders edition) look to go with my build. I don't want to not "pre-order" at the risk of missing out on the design, if they will comfortably have stock for say 5-6 months then I can wait it out.

The next thing is that it's a lot of money, granted my threshold was £600 max and it's going over by £35 which in all honesty if I've gone £600 that isn't the worst news. The thing that gets me thinking is how well will this thing perform in 4k? I'm thinking long term here, will this thing produce 60fps at 4k consistently?

I'm not convinced we will see a 1080ti this round.

We've already seen GP100, it focuses heavily on FP64 to the point that even with it's massive die size, due to the resultant lower clock speed it's barely any faster in FP32 than 1080, and 1080 can beat it in FP32 with some overclocking.

So, 1080ti stands to be not much faster...

Erm, yes, bit of a no-brainer. It's faster, has new tech/features and is the new generation of cards. The 980 Ti is old gen, still a fast/good card but old gen nonetheless. If you can afford/justify paying £105 more for a card then do so. It'll also "probably" hold it's value better than a £530 980 Ti old gen card will.

People like saying "mad" or "crazy" on here so I'll declare anyone buying a new 980 Ti for £530 now is MAD :), unless maybe they want to Sli with a card they already own but in that case probably better wait for a cheaper price

This is the FE below, you are better off waiting for AIB versions which IMO have better quality components (depending on each example), every AIB I ever bought just looked better especially the power chokes.

If you ARE going to buy a 1080, forget the Founder "Throttle if in a case instead of open-bench" Edition, wait for the 3rd party cards with custom cooler.

It's already been pointed out that majority of benchmarks of the Founder 1080 is only hitting those high number in an open-bench and with the card being stressed for no more than a few minutes before the card being to heat up to the level causing clock speed to throttle should be taken as the performance that you should expect to get when you have the card inside the case and game for beyond 4-10 minutes.

The Founder 1080 would barely be faster than the 980Ti, if you compare both cards overclocked vs overclocked (the 1080 has lesser overclocking headroom than the 980Ti).

Haven't you read the reviews? It doesn't do 60fps @ 4K in most new games at all let alone consistently.

True, the 1080 FE board looks dull, I noticed that too

Fury X reference actually had the best PCB of all time though

Question....

I am going to buy three FE 1080's for the following reasons:

1) I'm putting together a high end build and want the best cards i can get, so price is a moot point (see below)
2) I am putting all the cards underwater - so cooling/throttling shouldn't be an issue
3) I Am only really waiting for the CPU 6950X and the 1080's and I will have (mostly) all my components, so I don't think I really want to wait for the partner cards to come out.

I will be upgrading these cards when(if?) big pascal comes out, because the expenditure already in the build makes sense for me want to keep it at top spec; so i am fine with the loss on resale/purchase - so waiting 3 months for a decent partner card is pointless when I will upgrade 6 months or so after that, I may as well have been paying with the FE card from the beginning, no?

Am I totally foolish and do I have time to wait for the partner cards - will the 6950X be released at the end of May/early June? Do we have any real indication (based on fact) when the partner cards will be released?

Thoughts please fellas.

Cheers
Ben

romour has it that some the partner cards will have an extra 6pins to give card more power stable higher clock. if you get FE then you limit to only one 8pins power.

Have you not read a single thing in this thread? its blatantly obvious these cards wont perform as well under water as the non FE ones will, purely because they cannot draw enough power really to push them to their maximum potential.

Most people expect the AIB non FE cards to have extra power connection and phases built in to allow for more power to be delivered.

Surely these are the cards to buy no? Unless your just posting for the 15th time or whatever it is to tell everyone on OCUK you intend to buy 3 of these cards and a top end CPU yada yada.

As they say, fools are the money are easily parted.

If you have cash to burn do it, if not wait see if a titan is on the way buy three of them .
Nvidia are recommending only two gpus in sli at the moment for the 1080.
