** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

Bitspower pre order, I am informed that they are releasing two variants - one for FE and one for AIB with provision for 6+8 space on AIB cards.

Ah nice, was looking but only saw an 8 pin for them and ek and Chinese brand doing one. Good to see they already have plans! Openly means the cards that will be using them are imminent

Only issue is that I don't have confirmation on when nor any info on the blocks themselves, here is hoping though! I think I will be waiting for some time, but I try to be optimistic!

No, it won't be THAT cheap. Well, I'll be STUNNED if it is, because at that price the FE becomes an expensive paperweight that no one is going to buy unless they need x2 for SLI or a small build with poor airflow... which means Nvidia will be losing money hand over fist on these cards. So no, we are extremely unlikely to see any cards at the £500 mark unless they are inferior to the FE. The majority of the AIB custom cards will run cooler, quieter, faster and OC better... so expect them to be in and around the same price as the FE (and far more desirable). It's basic economics, so why anyone thinks they'll be paying that much less for a superior and more desirable product is beyond me.

what i really meant was the founders edition is like a hundred more expensive? so the non founders edition is a 100 cheaper, from the info ive seen online...

The 1080 has an MSRP of $100 less than the FE... MSRP means Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. Note the word SUGGESTED. They have no requirement whatsoever to price the card $100 less, so I don't know why anyone expects them to for cards that will be more powerful, quieter, cooler and OC better. Please can someone explain why exactly they would do this?? I do expect we will see a card (maybe more) at that price, but they will not be the all-singing and dancing super AIB custom cards we want, which will be very close to the FE price. The cheapest cards will be the most inferior... still a 1080 of course, but basically the worst 1080.

Not really, I'm sure the average wage for those looking at buying enthusiast components isn't far off.

Most "enthusiasts" are probably IT Techs on £20K a year. Your £620 a week is pretty optimistic/naive as far as most of the country goes.

I'm certainly not in the £43K bracket, but could afford this if I wanted despite having a mortgage, family and all the usual boring adult crap :p

Affording the things you want simply comes down to basic money management and planning ahead - I need X amount of £ in X amount of time. Example - I knew when the Vive (a similar cost as a 1080) was coming out and how much it would be, so simply altered spending over a period of time to accommodate for the outlay.

My GF and daughter didn't eat for 2 months, but hey, enthusiast gonna enthuse...

Correct.

I`ve never earned much more than £620 (after tax), and most of the time earn a fair bit less than that, but I could easily afford a couple of 1080s. However, I won't be buying any 1080s at launch. That's the reason I could easily afford to spend ~£1200 on a couple of graphics cards - I don't pay rip-off prices for stuff.

Just ignore him mate.

I think the real problem with the GTX 1080 is - is it a fair price ?

What I mean by that is after manufacturing costs, marketing, distribution etc have been take out is the remaining margin for NVidia too big.

I recon 6 weeks after the launch reference cards won't be call FE but will be identical in all other respects and will sell for at least 100 quid less.

You can compare it directly to the 680 launch, mid range part of a new process over a die shrink, same performance boost over 580 which was the 980Ti of the previous gen.

The 680 launched at £400-£450, why? The 7970 was out.

Competition is the only reason Nvidia are charging £620 for a mid range part.

pretty mych thats how the 980s launched

ocuk displayed models weeks before on launch date at around 11AM they was up for sale first come first serve. so much so that ocuk payment system went haywire and i had to order over the phone and pass them my PP invoice ID mainly over.

i believe this is the first big launch since the new payment system sooo hopefully it stays up...

Doubt it even when they added up the 1080 cards the site went down and gave us a 501 error let alone addi in a payment gateway and SSL into the mix.

Very good post +1

Highly doubt Nv are going to backtrack and drop FE branding, if you compare 780 pricing scenario, they were sky high and never dropped price until Amd released a comparable performance part, even then they could command a higher price for a slower product.

As AMD have no answer, can't see a price adjustment happening at all.
