** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

They won't stay at 650 long,

Same as when I preordered the Asus 4K was 800 2 weeks later was 600 not saying they will be 200 cheaper but give it 2 weeks thell be 599 at least

HAHAHA! If thats the case then I'm sorry but you mugs deserve all you get! jesus wept! Talk about lunacy. Why would you buy the more expensive one? Absolute CRAZY. Now wonder they take the pee with pricing. We must be the easiest bunch of fools to sell to in the world.

What will happen is that "sensible" people will start with the lowest priced ones, and the people that MUST HAVE IT but didn't manage to get it will pay the extra for the more costly ones, just so they can get it.

Note - It's not sensible to spend this money on a midrange card.

Comparing my Fury X to my TX certainly didn't put it at "top of the line", it was quite a bit behind but still was a great card and like I said, a real powerhouse. The AIO coolers can't be cheap either.

As for your second line, we wait and then we wait and then we wait for the next best thing that is coming down the line always. When is it the right time to buy?

IMO when the TI or Titan is unveiled if you already have a TI or Titan. I just don't like the precedent it sets. You could argue that a 20% performance increase is worth the money, but what does this do for future releases? Are all Nvidia releases going to be like this in future, regardless of the gains? If the 1180 is only 10% faster for some reason and it's still £635.

Don't get me wrong I bought a Titan X so I'm not one to talk about being silly with money, but at least I was able to enjoy my e-penis for a year or so. I've not seen any justifiable reason for the price of this over last year.

Difference is the Fury X was positioned as a top of the line card.

This is priced at 635, knowing full well there is a more powerful version of this card coming down the line.

Even more, Fury X used a type of memory never before used, an interposer on a large scale production chip for the first time. GDDR5x is new, but no different in how it's manufactured to gddr5, nor different in how it's packaged together. Fury X was literally a pioneering product that had understandably low production because literally every part of packaging required entirely new facilities that were ramping up from no previous production. 1080gtx, regardless of performance or cost, is just another graphics card, using the same fabs, the same packaging plants, the same everything.

There is no reason for this to be difficult to produce or using low volume packaging facilities, none at all. Fury X was a test chip in every sense, every part of getting it drawing board into the AIBs hands was new. It was also a 600mm^2 chip, with extremely expensive(comparatively) HBM, with an interposer, it only cost £550 at launch when it probably cost 2-3 times what the 1080gtx does to make.

If AMD gouged the Fury X in the same way Nvidia is the 1080gtx, Fury X would have cost £1200+.

I thought founders editions were nvidia branded ones only so i didnt think asus and the likes would sell founders versions at all they would be the normal priced ones. Im so confused.

So who is gona be the dumb ones that buy it at this price instead of waiting till its £100 cheaper in a few weeks till the "normal edition" ones which are identical apart from cooler perhaps come out.

If I wasn't having a push on my Youtube channel, I would sit with my TX and wait it out. I really want to give it a hard go and see what comes and I am hoping to get some solid interest. I love doing hardware and game reviews and as a hobby, I need things like this to keep me motivated (if that makes sense).

Edit:

I do agree though, for those with a Ti or TX, it isn't that much of a jump and would pay to sit this round out.

Have to say I'm getting a bit worried by everyone tearing into the Asus card lol. Why is it so bad, I've got an Asus card lol! I thought it looked the best lol.

Nvidia made these cards, Asus, didn't, MSI didn't, Palit didn't. The first batches of reference cards are made to order by Nvidia(or AMD for their reference cards), they'll source a single manufacturer to make their PCBs, coolers and put the cards together with the chips themselves. They then sell complete cards to AIBs, who put them in different boxes and sell them to distributors who sell them to retailers like OCUK.

The exact difference between the Asus and OCUK one, is different box art. Asus are taking an identical product and asking for an extra 5% for absolutely no reason but they think people will pay more because they are Asus.

Founders edition is just the name for reference design now. Much like the 980Ti, Titan X et al which came with a blower style cooler but sold by EVGA, MSI etc. The Board Partners do all the various logistics and warranty handling.

Difference this time is the blower style by Nvidia has had a price bump rather then being the bottom entry into the pack.

I really hope prices make more sense 3 months down the line. This is 33% too much IMHO. Even at 400 that's hefty for a "lower end card"
