** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

Sorry, but the 1080 is a 256bit castrated version of pascal. They have just decided not to release the full 384 bit versions yet, for price gouging reasons.

But hey, you can tell yourself it's a high end card, lube up and buy one if you like.

Then watch as nvidia release the ti version...

X70 and X80 are the mid range cards, X80ti and Titans are the high end cards. When the 970 came out, some of them were faster than some reference 780ti... was anyone claiming the 970 was a high end card?

No. Because...

a) it had 70 in it's title
b) It wasn't £600+.

If anyone wants to convince themselves that the 1080 is a high end card based on price, and the performance of the previous architecture, then part your cheeks and get on with it.

The 7970 was a 365mm2 part, that also got stacked on top of GTX580 pricing on release. Both sides do whatever they think they can get away with on pricing. If people don't want to pay £600 for a 1080 then fair play to them, wait a few months and hope for better competition.

The 1080 isn't priced to compete with the 980ti as that is going EOL, its priced to compete with AMD, who are currently still charging £500 for a FuryX

This would be true if the Ti was released at the same time as the standard 1080 card, but... It's not and probably won't be for a good 9 months.

You might as well be saying the same thing during the 1080Ti launch with the 1180 being released released 9 months later.

(Estimated launch times based on Google search :p)

It doesnt matter what under the hood...

Its the fastest card out....So its the winner of the race....

Then the ti will come and that will be the fastest card and the winner of the race...

You can call the 1080 low end, mid range, high end, or geoff or nancy....

Your point is moot.

Yeah

In a Nutshell...

People based hardware on on the future....

The 1080ti will be suceedeed.

The winner irght now is the 1080

I fail to understand why Ivan and others don't get this simple concept...They think 256bit bus and and get hung up...

If the 1080ti is released its top end in their eyes...But what happens if they release a 1080tiplus (1080ti+ 512bit bus) does the 1080ti become midrange?

Fact is it doesnt matter what you call a card....Its the fastest card which is top end at any given time.

but its not the fastest card. its a replacement for the 980 and 970.which even nvidia have said so it is being priced out of its range.

obviously like the 980 ti a 1080ti variant will come out shortly then a titan variant.

so the 1070 should be £300 tops.the 1080 should start at £400 which they will be after a short while or when the 1080ti comes out.

i dont think these will sell as good as the last gen 970 gtx , 980 for the simple reason of the pricing.

the thing is regardless of how they sell even if badly it will be reported of record breaking sales :p

just remember for eg the 970 gtx sold over a million cards.then you have the 980 gtx owners. sorry you aint getting near them figures with these new cards.also many of those owners can play whatever they want at max settings even in the most recent games.

so factor in stupid pricing and no real need to upgrade other than hype = price drop to try and trigger people to buy.

Midrange = in the middle of the range. So if you have a range of cards say the 1000 series, you'd have maybe 1050, 1060, 1070, 1080, 1080ti, Titan. 2 low end, 2 mid, 2 high end.

Eh?

Last time I looked it was faster than a Titan X

So on earth right now.....Its the fastest card...

This is Fact.

Forget all the other stuff...

Its the fastest card right now...In 9 months it wont be....

295x2 has something to say about that ;) Fastest gpu, not card :)

The only card in the range right now is the 1070 and 1080

The fastest card in that range is the 1080 so its top of the range...

All the other parts of the range you have made up...

Until the ti comes the 1080 is top of the range...

In that range is 2 cards

The 1070 and 1080

I fail to see what you don't get....

Nvidia could happily release the whole range simultaneously.

But hey, why do that when you can release them one at a time and rip everyone off.

Do you see?

So basically there is no mid-range anymore listening to some people on here, because on release it's the fastest, therefore EVERYTHING is high-end... until it's superseded. Wow, Nvidia really have pulled off some kind of genius getting people to believe that!

Based on the price of the 1080, does anyone genuinely think the 1080Ti isn't now heading for an £800 price tag?? How is THAT going to be justified? That genuinely WILL be high-end though, so yeah, sounds reasonable doesn't it. And then about a year from now HBM2... you think that will be LESS? No, £1000 most likely. But that's new tech, new design etc. so yeah, that's worth £1K. Interesting isn't it, going from a £400 "high end" 980 in 2014 to a £1,000 HBM2 "high-end" GP100-based card in 2017... progress is such a wonderful thing.

Thats how business works...

You can be butt hurt all you like...

But is is what it is...

You don't have to buy it...

Just like you don't have to drink bleach...:p

Someone else understands :)

no we get it. it just there is no arguement when nvidia tells you the 1070 and the 1080 is the midranges replacement like for like ;)

the only difference is the high range pricing because they are currently faster than a higher selling card.just like when the previous ones which these are replacing were.

the difference ?

the 970 gtx and 980 gtx were priced accordingly even though they were as fast or quicker than the old titan it replaced.these were still midrange though ;)

so we are being given the same thing as usual just at a rip roaring price.

saying these are faster is irrelevant.the previous gen did exactly the same.but...were priced at £300 and £400-£450 on launch.
