NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

It's definitely possible to write a custom bios that allows the fans to turn off at a certain temperatures. I doubt that gigabyte will release one but I am certain that a 3rd party will do it (like skyn3t).

Also as long as you can flash the original bios back onto the card then the warranty will remain. I returned a rubbish 780 lightning that I flashed Skyn3t's bios onto and reflashed the stock bios back on before return.

Thanks Disco, much appreciated. That's good to hear. I'll also make sure that stock bios can replace any third party bios before i try it :)

Has anyone managed to fit the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 into a Zalman Z11 Plus case? I would love to buy one, but I don't think it will fit or it's going to be a very tight squeeze.

According to Guru3d, the card is exactly 297mm, not 312mm as reported by most websites. Is this true?

I have bought two G1's, it is a really big card. Biggest I have owned. Make sure you do your research first. Sorry could not be more help

Must admit I was disappointed when I read that other 970's do not turn the fans on until the card hits 65c. The G1's fans spin constantly.

Got my MSI all set up - seems to be working fine so far and touch-wood I haven't noticed either the coil whine or the fan problems (at stock), will see how it goes :) Oh but no Haribo - WTF?!?!?!

I do have a question though - tried DSR in a few games and while it does what it says it should do it plays havoc with my other screen - I have a 1980x1200 as my main screen and a smaller 1280x1024 secondary - when I select any DSR enabled res in the game menu everything on the smaller screen seems to get offset in funny positions. Anybody get the same or know whether it's something that can be fixed?

What are peoples cards volts "boosting" too when under 3d load?

I have two Galax EXOC's and one boosts to 1.175v and the other to 1.212v and the second always shows Vrel, Vop in GPU-Z as the perf cap reason.

I thought 970's "boosted" to 1.25v?

More or less the same. If you read back through the last couple of pages of this thread, theres some more info. A google reveals it isn't just the 970 cards, it was the same with previous generations also.

I've got 2 of the msi 790s in my zalman z11 and I think they are the same size as the g1, they are a squeeze but not too bad

Thanks for the reply. My case can only support GFX cards that are 12" max and if Guru3D are right and the G1 is 297mm, then I've only got 3mm to play with and that is going to be a very tight squeeze.

Anyone else getting this really weird problem. I play a game, both cards clocked to 1456mhz. I quit it... surf a bit, start it back up. I get one card clocked at 1479 and one clocked at 1250. Then the 2nd card seems to alternate between 1250 and 1456 until I restart then its back to normal. I've check in event viewer, I have no warnings or errors.

I'm having a weird issue with my MSI Gaming 970. I can only ever use 3.5GB of video Ram for some reason. On my 980 playing shadow of mordor it uses the full 4GB but for some reason on the 970 it sits at 3.5GB same settings. Afterburner also reports 3.6GB available but GPU-Z reports 4GB ???

Anyone heard of this not sure if it's a fault or just reporting wrong or perfectly normal tbh..

Edit - Another thing I have noticed on the 970 the GPU usage jumps up and down quite a bit on Mordor whereas on the 980 it remains in the high 90's. With the 970 it stutters quite a bit and this seems to be when the GPU usage drops into the 60's.

Weird...
