NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

not only that mine is 1392 :p not 1329. seen this a lot on the net though. weird.

3 of us on ts with g1s. all do it at stock 1392 :D

did any of you 970 owners had were card loses signal and pc restarts ?

as after installing 970 happens to me is it the card drivers psu ?

Apparently there is an issue with some mobos hanging on startup and taking a long time to boot into windows. A flash to the latest mobo bios appears to cure this . Mine does it (gigabyte mobo) and takes about 3-4 minutes to boot into windows. Its down to the 970 bios recognition I seem to remember reading about.

booting to windows is fine just randomly will loose dvi signal and for few seconds like monitor is not connected then pc restarts.

in windows while not doing anything just had it an hour ago 3 times in a row, even when not overclocked.

Saw post on forum about some exchange rate messing, and prices might be going up soon. Was going to hang off a 970 purchase until MArch/April, get my new CPU going and see if I really need a new GPU.

Cash wasn't available either, but now after some savings and second hand sales, cash is there.

Should I actually worry about pricing going up on 970 cards, or is that some shop talk for " we need to clear stock quickly". Always have a preference buying from the site, but don't like being pressured, and its not like there isn't a host of other retailers for me to shop from ( being from Ireland, all my purchases are from abroad anyway)

Pull the trigger or chill the **** out? :P

I'll be a Galax GTX970 owner soon, but I am worried now my motherboard may not be able to handle it so I am hoping to find some answers here.

My specs:

Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 (MS-7681)
i5 2500K CPU
OCZ PSU 700W Stealth Xtreme
8GB RAM

Bios version is v.1.19 (used the MSI LiveUpdate a few times over the years, never flashed using a USB key)

Anyone with a similar motherboard and Sandy Bridge CPU who upgraded to a GTX9** card? Never thought this would be any issue but the more I Google it, the more worried I am about bricking it, losing the overclock, etc. (later Bios versions are needed for the newer cards, but don't play along well with Sandy, it seems)

Posted a similar question in the Motherboard forum but think it is relevant here too.

My gigabyte g1's both sit at 1367 on load.

My MSI 970 under load boosts between 1380-1393, does this indicate I have a beast mode card with plenty of Overclock Potential?

Curious to what temps under load after couple hours and fan % peoples MSI cards run at.

Highest I saw mine was between 66-68 with an ambient of with a guesstimate 23/24c how does this seem tad high? (In a cold room it keeps around 60c)

Case is a Corsair 450D 2 x 140 Intake / 2 x 120 Exhaust - (All PWN)

Mine are SLI and WF cooled so not a direct comparison, but my hottest card will peak at around 69C and my bottom card peaks at around 59C.

The cards will throttle at 70C, so 68 maximum is acceptable IMO.

Just got the Galax coil whine free card which is making quite a lot of coil whine!! I'm hoping it's something with my setup that causes the whine as it's already annoying me quite a bit.

When I installed the card I saw that it required a 6pin and 8 pin additional power connectors however my PSU only has 6 pin connectors and the instructions said it was fine to use these. It does come with a molex adaptor if necessary but is currently plugged into 2 x 6 pin connectors. The PSU is a 700 watt and is a few years old now - bought from OCUK as party of a i5 bundle but can't recall the brand although it was the default option for the PC Bundles OCUK sold in 2009.

Any ideas on why the card is making so much noise and any options for updating the bios etc?

With a LD cooling case and two 360 radiators, fans at their lowest and CPU temps hitting a max of 50 degrees my MSI card at 1580/8300 hits 68-70 degrees when gaming with auto fan.

With fan set to 100% (still quite quiet) then it will drop to low 60s

Thank you for that.

I just felt with 2 140 Intakes and 2 120 Exhausts in a case which has a breathable floor/front panel/roof that my 970 is sitting very close to throttling temperatures but fan speed does not reach over 54% and my case fans still don't reach over 1000 RPM.

Guess it is just trying to be as quiet as possible within the threshold, but for people with cases with less cooling power than mine e.g less intakes, less vents and so on, I'd be interested to know Core Boost Speeds/Type of Card/ Fan % and Temps to compare.

In a cooler room it does indeed only reach low 60's.

Mine doesn't throttle at all with the bios. Will still happily sit at the highest boost no matter what but I do try and keep it as low as possible. My fans ramp up with CPU temp so generally speaking when gaming the card isn't too bad.

However when mining with it, when the CPU is at idle the fans ramp down but the GPU is at 100% so it runs a bit warm then.

Won't be long before I get the water block for it though.

How do you find using a LD case, do you like it ?

Love it. The only issue I have with it is the stupid allen key screws that come with it but they can easily be changed.

Light weight and happily fits two 360mm thick rads, 6 or 7 hard drives, jump, rest, etc.

Expensive bit of kit but certainly worth it. Don't think i'll be changing case again.
