Yea why not! As long as your temps are under control.

Most likely volts ^, with a custom bios volts push past the default of 1.256v and end up at 1.275V but that's Afterburner read out, actual volts at the card will be at 1.3v+
Still though 1530/7600 is fantastic on default bios, with custom bios I reach 1550/8050 ( Never throttles )
yeah not really worth messing with the bios for a small gain over what i am already getting i think!.. esp when its not mine lol!
I was more curious why the stock boost speed was much higher than the spec says it should be..
Any good 970 gaming custom bios available?
Really enjoyed reading this thread during the quiet period in work the last week.
I'm currently running an AMD FXII x4 955 BE, and a Radeon R9 270x, been toying with the idea of upgrading for a while. Moving ahead with a CPU change to an i5 4690, and had a GTX970 on the cards.
Actually going to hold off until March to see the performance bump I get from my CPU ( and should have some spare cash to make a €300 outlay on a GPU not feel so bad)
But this thread has been a really big help in deciding. Have landed on the Gigabyte G1 gaming card, and my god its taking all my self control not to buy it now alongside the new CPU
What card do you have? MSI?
No reason why you couldn't buy it now and the 4690k later on

Just my 2 cents.
My original PC was a Qx9650 and a 5870. I upgraded to a 3570k and a GTX 670. Now the GPU arrived before the CPU did, so I put the GPU in alongside my Qx9650. I did get a boost in max frames, but when I put my 3570k in, it was like a breath of fresh air for the minimums.
So basically your current CPU will be a bottleneck (quite a bit) but it's not the end of the world. You can buy the gpu first then upgrade cpu later on.
I've gone the other way around, CPU and motherboard already en route. Although I got the CPU at such a discount, bit part of me wants to go for the GPU aswell right now
Once I get going, I get a serious itchy trigger finger on shopping carts.
I've a few second hand things I'm selling ( not pc related) so if the cash presents itself shortly, I might just splurge out on the GPU also.
Probably the right way round!
Firestrike extreme & firestrike normal with single 970.

Your X99 system really makes them 970's shine
What kind of temperatures are those 3x MSI 970cards hitting at max load ?
On air the middle card hits 75C with 100% fan. Top card 60C, Bottom card barely 50C
