** NVIDIA GTX 970 REFERENCE EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE FROM OcUK IN EUROPE!! **

Hey gibbo
I noticed you posted that you had requested that the coils be plastic covered etc
So is this still the case?

Yes that has being done, different plastic containers which the factory reported back on saying it helped reduce noise and eliminate it in some cases. :)

Looking forward to them arriving, it is the ultimate 970 for 2-way SLI in small cases and 3-way SLI. :)

So how will this custom 970 reference compare to the OCUK reference 980 (the £410 version)? Are we talking like for like other than the obvious fact one is 970 and the other is a 980, or is there more to it than just that?

Like for like :)

I have seen it has the manli branding on it, does it also arrive in the manli box that I saw on their website? Also, is the cooler used straight from nvidia or has manli modified it in any way? I want to make sure it's the exact same quality as the original, or other reference coolers on for example the GTX 980. For example, the picture on your website has the 4 screws on the backplate and they look different and of a lesser quality. Will this be on the final version we buy? Already thanks for listening to your customers needs! :)

The cooler is completely supplied by NVIDIA, but it is 970 cooler which is slightly different to the 980 cooler. When they arrive we shall take our own photos. :)

What's different? Just curious :)

If I remember correctly:
Titan Cooler: Vapor Chamber
980 Cooler: Heatpipe
970 Cooler: Heatsink

All use the same fan, so acoustics are same as is relative performance as each GPU has a lower heat output.

Lastly, I know the GTX 980's reference LED's can be controlled in the nvidia software to respond to in game sound, load on the GPU, etc. Will this also be supported with these cards?

Well I did not even know that was the case with the 980, but I suspect it won't be any different.

Gibbo. Hey, hey, Gibbo.
...
Customs release our cards yet?
Or are HMRC still busy seeing if they run in quad-SLI?

No idea, customers/HMRC play along the rules of you will get them when we ship them which will be when we decide. Right now we are in a blank on this shipment as our girl who sorted the shipping is in Taiwan and ill. So they could turn up today or tomorrow, can't get anything more accurate.

Morning

They have landed.

I've grabbed one to test and photograph.

So far I can confirm the following:

Genuine 970 cooler confirmed and visualizer is lit up, can't confirm control as I am using an 8 Pack PC so no fancy software installed but as it is lit up I would assume it will work.

Even better news the BGA Board is a 980 board as requested!!!! :)

Coil whine report, of course I have only tested one but my example with fan at minimum and my head against the card I can't hear a thing!!! :)

Now I am trying some overclocking, now bear in mind I never purchased these as an overclocking card so anything here is a bonus. But I am testing the memory at present which I instructed must only be Samsung, it is Samsung and so far I am upto 8200MHz artefact free and climbing.

I shall do some core clocking once I have found the memory limit. :)

Cooler performance, well a 980 with everything on automatic will reach 80c in Heaven after a few loops whilst remaining pretty much silent.

970 in the same testing environment is reaching 77c so marginally cooler, no doubt because the 970 core emits less heat so the cooler is less stressed.

Very happy! :)

I've also updated the product description, looking excellent so far! :)

Oh no! The cards are so nice, Gibbo has decided to keep them all for himself!

Well I am already not allowing our trade sales to sell them, they are soley for our end user customers and SLI system builds.

Now upto 8400MHz on the memory artefact free, I am either very lucky and picked a gem of the palit or because of all the higher-end components it is assisting in the memory clock.

Also for those who wish to know with fan at 100% it is a whoosh sound just like 980 cooler and now temperature is struggling to exceed 50c, plus the card is boosting by itself to 1300MHz with 100% fan speed. :)

P.S. Seeing the odd artefact at 8400MHz memory speed, 8300MHz and below is artefact free.

No coil whine under load too? An MSI card I used started grinding like anything in-game but was silent idle.

That's how I tested, heaven at the air ship so FPS well over 100+, ear on the card, zero noise outputted. :)

Now upto 1500MHz core on stock voltage, seem that using 980 PCB certainly helps with the OC a bit.

Got upto 1540MHz core on stock voltage, any higher and it crashes.

Now trying some voltage to see if it helps get any more......

Dislikes voltages, max OC on stock voltage is 1540MHz core.

Extremely impressed with the card! Now to dismantle it and take some photos. :D

What are you using to OC? Presumably it doesn't come with any special software to help? How are the temps? I'm considering this for an H440 case, or would a third party cooler card be better do you think?

I already mentioned temps, read my post.

Using afterburner. :)
