Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

I've decided to try a Kraken G10 on mine just ordered some more thermal tape for heatsinks although mine has big flat heatsink over the ram and vrm's I am hoping I can keep in place.

If its the one I am thinking of you dont get heatsinks for VRM's or RAM chips. When I fitted it to a 290 I bought and applied them. Had to cut two to size as they would have caught on the central block. Excellent cooler though.

Also its massive like 4/5 slots wide. Plus dont forget the back side is like 15mm too so make sure it doesnt interfere with anything at the back like your CPU cooler if its quite big.

i was looking at reviews last night and although cpu cooling seems to be good the vrm side has me a bit worried. Debating on ordering at the moment , if I do overclockers have recommended these to me :-

"Watercool passive cooler for VGA RAM 12-Pack"

Yeah bought them to use with my 970's when I had them. However they are no good for VRM cooling.

OCUK used to sell the Alphafoen ones which included RAM and VRM but they dont anymore.

Have a look at this thread it shows my pics and the 290. You can just see them on the bottom pic.

thanks for post , yeh i see them .... do you think it would be ok to leave the vrm without the passive coolers gpu side and just let fans do job ? ive been tring to check temps for vrm through afterburner gpuz and hwinfo64 but seem unable to get any readings

Its designed so the ram and VRM are cooled gpu side via the fans. Its not going to hurt but you do a get a temp drop if you fit them. I just dont think its that affective as they make out.

Although like you have found not all GPU manufacturers include temp monitors for VRM.

The MSI 970 I had (and the 290 come to think of it) had them. Galax reference 970s and my Inno3d 980 does not.

I think more expensive makes tend to include them.

thanks for the info greatly appreciated , i was just about to pull trigger on one of these then i decided to measure distance from gpu to cpu cooler. I have the Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom , sadly this solution will not work for me as you need 23mm clearance and i have 19 / 20 :( . Currently looking at the Prolimatech MK-26 wil see when investigated more later tonight

Hi there! Can someone help me out here please? Because I have no idea what's going on and I spent most of last night trying to figure out what's causing it.

Basically I have a 980 clocked at 1530/8100. In Attila in hours of play it is running fine at set clock speeds via AB OSD ie I'm seeing 1530/4050 ish on the OSD. But when I load up borderlands pre sequel I get 1530 boost, but 3005 mem clocks?? Which is less than even stock men clocks. I exit out and tried to alter mem clocks in AB but after hitting apply it just reverts back to what was set before it. I can't change it unless I do a restart.

Any ideas as to why this happens? If it's set too high surely I would notice artifacting but I didnt, and it ran with no problems in Attila. I also noticed before it got to borderlands loading screens, a few black windows opened/maximised/minimised and that sort of behaviour, which I normally don't see when loading this game up.

Any suggestions?

Try a third game and see how it behaves?

You are looking at mem clocks and not mem usage arent you ?

Shows a screenie!

:)

Latest Drivers? Did you uninstall all GC drivers before installing this one? Have you tried a driver removal and then DDU?

A question for all of you who have a SLi setup.

First, I currently Game @ 1080 but will (when funds permit) be changing to a the IPS 1440 G-Sync Monitor.

I've run my current Classified via the DSR @ 1440 in BF4 and it sits around 60 - 75 FPS with some Graphic settings turned down. Do you guys think (honest answers please) it will be worth SLi'n? For those who own an SLi setup, what FPS are you getting in BF4?

Machine spec is as per my Sig.

Thanks Chaps!

In Battlefield 4, I get around 60-80 fps (depending on scene obviously) with a singe 980 and my Swift. You have to remember that even as low as 45fps you will be lovely and smooth with G-Sync.

Having said all that, my 2nd card arrives in one hour according to Mr DPD so I'll update you later with exactly what the improvement is.

I really agonised over going SLI, and what finally persuaded me was twofold...

1. Getting 120fps in games like BF4.
2. Being able to switch off G-Sync and enabling ULMB.

Is it worth it? Only you can tell, but I'll let you know my own thoughts later.

Doesnt matter. I figured it out what was causing it. Whenever I have shadowplay enabled its causing this 3005 mhz lock. Disabled it, restart, fixed. Must be some kind of shadowplay bug or something else is causing shadowplay to react like that?

Anyone else who uses shadowplay get any issues similar to mine? Could someone try shadowplay enabled and see if it affects them?
