Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Been impressed with Stu's G1 but it won't be a touch on a Classified. Great buy for 500 though

My G1 did just as well as his too.

Classified should be good, but I do hope they bin the GPU's otherwise if you get duff silicon then no matter how good the boards power design is it simply won't do.

Silly question I know but do we have any dates for the 980ti as I've read the 960 is delayed until 2015

I would honestly be surprised now if NVIDIA released a faster Maxwell this year, they can't keep up with demand at present and there is simply no need for them to release anything else now.

Their stack is perfect:-

Titan Black @ £600ish
980 @ £430-£530
780Ti @ £350
970 @ £250-£320
780 @ £230
770 @ £180
760 @ £150
750Ti @ £110
750 @ £90

They are in a very good place right now. :)

GTX 980's G1 are stonking, 2 of them SLI very well. Temps on top card still only about 72c on deep soak.

For the first time I can report no microstutter, no jittering or any issues. I really do think Gigabyte have done well by beefing up the VRM/PSU on this, it shows as the TDP on this card is 220W. I tried SLIing 780Ti's and i had issues, but I did have another motherboard at that time.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4307168?

oc'd with +140MHz and +300MHz on ram.

These cards have lower ASICs of 68-71% which is interesting as this must be what is required to get well clocking cards I have found, leaky as it is referred to I think? Anyway very stable on air and easy overclocker and the cooler works well. No extra voltage applied.

Also Gigabytes fans this time around are MUCH better than the 780ti they did IMHO. Better quality and no noises.

Anyone looking for a card to pick, get the G1.
Hi did you touch the power limiter or was that left at 100 percent, I'm just wanted a rough idea where to start as my asic is around 71.7

Also put a Noctua 92mm redux fan, pushes major air and is all pwm controlled by the GPU fan as well as the rad fan with a pwm fan splitter,so I have full control over the fans, I use push pull on the rad (not in the photo) and sit around 47 degrees at full OC load.

Do you have the fan linked to GPU temperatures or CPU temperature, if you have it set to GPU temperatures then are you using software to help you do this (like speedfan)?

Hi I found using EVGA Precision it does not respond at all. So far, the more I overclock it seems to just deliver the power automatically and overclock yet I never see the power go over 100%. Weird i know.

Can anyone else concur?

see here, under full load and over clocked yet the power is only 72%???

The G1 definitly has its own thing going on in terms of power delivery...

The two fans (Rad/vrm) are connected to the GPU fan controller and the card fan speeds perfectly match the higher revining Corsair SP120 PWM fan. Remember the card will try and rev the fans up if it doesnt see higher enough rpms and over compensate.
This is why the noctua vrm cooler fan is a slave on the splitter. I never had to remap the fan speed using EVGA precision i was happy with the air / temp relation.

I had no idea you could change it to cpu temprature, or are you talking about motherboard fan control?

Hi i have just bought a msi gtx 980 replaced my 7990 was wondering if i should buy another one and run it in sli? .

asrock z68 extreme4 gen3
i7 2600k 4.4
antec h20 920 cooler
nzxt phantom case
16gb vengance
MSI gtx 980 gamer
1440p monitor
corsair 850tx v2

Would it run ok with the rest of my setup or do i need to upgrade motherboard and cpu?
Or should i not bother with a 2nd card and spend the cash on motherboard cpu.
was going to buy a msi x99 motherboard but the ddr4 is putting me off.
i was told i wont see much differance between mine and a z97 in most games?
will my psu be good enough for sli

thanks
maka

I take it you are using msi afterburner since EVGA precision is not working,

Yeh they seem pretty good. i don't think there is a Kingpin card this time round but word from the grape vine is there will be one again next year

Binning the RAM will be just as important as core this time around.

In fact, if they don't bin the RAM it might turn out to be a weak card.

hi guys still getting issues with the dvi showing no display, Im thinking its a cold boot issue as just in from work and no display on top dvi so connected the dp cable up and get the display then reconnect the dvi to top and do a reboot and Im getting the display again from the top dvi, anyone getting this with there g1

Your system is fine but I would overclock your 2600k to at least 4.8Ghz if possible.

Bought my Gigabyte G1 980 today. Does anyone else's have a poor fitting back plate, not straight or fits perfectly, also where you put the thumb screws into the I/O it was bent.

Not sure whether to return it tomorrow if everyone else's was fine.

At £500 I do expect it tI fit properly.

Return it, shouldn't have to accept that on any new card.
