I've been running an overclocked Inno 670 reference for just under two years, and it's been flawless.

So I tried to RMA mine and received the following reply -
“Dear XXXX
I am afraid that coil whine is not classed as a fault as it doesn’t effect the cards performance in any way, shape or form.
Apologies if this causes a problem.
Regards
James Bailey”
If you haven’t seen my vid it’s here again - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yNFwZDxHXM
Must admit after spending £500 on a graphics card you would want it to be perfect really!
Guess I’ll have to live with it.
I started by saying its a fault if it's audible easily, if so we will class it as a fault and RMA it for you.
As an official statement to stop people quoting bits here and there this is our official policy on coil whine below:-
OcUK will accept an RMA for a card which has coil whine in extreme circumstances which we consider to be audible on a quality single rail PSU of gold rating or higher. Audible as in coil whine in normal usage and gaming which is audible above case fans in a closed case. Coil whine in benchmarks is not considered as a fault. It's not actually a fault in the hardware as such if a card whines, it is inherent in graphics card design, but we will class it as a fault for cards which are clearly audible in normal usage (gaming). For example two identical cars, one will consume upto 1l of oil every 1000 miles and the other one consume nothing, this is not considered a fault by the manufacturer and it is operating within specification.
It is a fault, Gibbo clearly states this. .
Got my 980 from OCUK, no coil whine at all, clocks to 1500mhz core and epic performance. Tis a beauty
Thought I would add that to play devil's advocate vs the small minority that do have coil whine.
Its subjective, people expecting no coil whine under any circumstances need to send their card back and go for integrated instead. I have never had any card from either AMD or NV which does not coil whine at higher fps.
simon what did that cost you ?
£55 total.
Jesus I'd need a spaced bridge, did you get direct from Nvidia ?
Yes not cheap. A friend in the states.
Come on Gibbo, tell your staff coil whine is a fault... It's especially erksome if people have paid tons of money to have a product that's making a racket like that when the only thing you should hear is the fan . The reason I'm moaning is at some point I'll want one and I'll want to be reassured it can be returned if it whines like a cat
