Well after returning my Strix 970, I now have the Strix 980 and the first game I'm playing through is Far Cry 4. I heard this game is problematic for a lot of people but was expecting it to be super smooth on the latest patch (1.8) using Nvidia optimal settings. This isn't the case though and I get what seems like regular micro-stutter/jerkiness/frame drops(?) that I never got on games like Shadow of Mordor and Tomb Raider. Its still fully playable but its simply not what I would call 'silky smooth' like the other titles I mentioned.

Can GTX 980 owners let me know of their experience with this game? Is what I'm experiencing normal or what?

Rather happy here.

So un installed my 970 and installed the SOC 980. No coil whine but it is a rather warm beast. Fan at 100% is just as quiet as the MSI 970 so that's not an issue for me.

No bios modding because so far there doesn't appear to be any need to.

+170 core, +400 memory, 122 Power limit and +70mV on the core

Boosts to 1588 core and 1951 memory (7800 effective) and I get this - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5853788?

For comparison this is my 970 at it's max stable clock http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4375482?

Not had a chance to touch gaming yet but will report back. Looks as though this is a decent clocker.

Right,

So the Volts start at 1.225 then drop to 1.200 and the PerfCap is VRel. Dr Google suggests that the Core can not boost any higher at that given voltage.

So, is it safe to bump it to 1.225 long term?

Edit: What are your stock volts?

Vrel is power to the card, not so much voltage.

Essentially the card is limited by the amount of power supplied to it.

Just working on a custom bios, give me a few mins.

They look about right.

I think I'll leave it as this for the time being and give it a weeks worth of gaming, then if I need too I'll oc some more or look towards a custom bios.
