We have been focusing on the consumer graphics market since some time now but its time to look at what’s in development for the high-performance super-computing and workstation segment by GPU Giant NVIDIA. The Tesla K20X has been NVIDIA’s top beast in this department and has been featured inside the world’s fastest Titan supercomputer (The one after which GeForce GTX Titan was named).

Is this actually happening or just a load of hype?

Will it appear on 20nm?

It's called pre-emptive marketing, attack before you are attacked.

So far we have had:

AMD can't render on 4K(In the voice of PCPers Ryan-oops I didn't use Display Port for input and used the far inferior HDMI input instead-nothing at all to do with Nvidia of course-nudge nudge, ;) ;)).

Steam Box is implied to run only on Nvidia.

Origin PC systems dropped AMD they would have you believe due to bad drivers(Nvidia signed an exclusive deal).

Nvidia is expected to present the new graphics card in a gaming event in Montreal, which takes place on 16-17 October(day after AMD NDA lifts).

Which after all that, leaves me with the thought of:

Hmm, R290X must at least be faster than the 780, wait a minute, something is telling me it may also topple Titan too@4K and above.

I know a lot of things are marketing BS but in the recent 4k monitor review on guru3d they even said to use 4k on an ATI card you need to jump through hoops, where as on Nvidia it's basically plug & play.

Its funny cause ive read the other way around.. I shall see if i can manage to find the article. Basicly just plug and play.

Setup of the screen on an AMD Radeon card isn't that difficult but as it is right now you will need to create an Eyefinity setup and merge the two panels embedded in the monitor to 3840x2160 / 60 Hz. Also the first time you apply UHD it'll configured at 30 Hz. With AMD in-between the two screens there is a 1px wide line visible from top to bottom (vertical). Once you enforce 60Hz on the screen that clears up.

With a GeForce solution pretty much everything is going as planned. You install a compatible driver, select MST mode and the driver will do the rest. Seconds later you have your panel configured at 3840x2160 / 60 Hz and you are ready to rock and roll.

The need to use an Eyefinity group seems to cause all the problems, should be solved by the new cards. People on old cards will still be waiting on frame-pacing though.

+1

NVidia are out of options, all this stuff is just spoil tactics.

Having said that I think the Titan will still beat a R9 290X but that is not the point, AMD will be targeting the GTX 780.

Haven't seen anything that implies its nVidia only, just that the test kits are built with nVidia GPUs - the valve reveal implies a variety of hardware from different manufacturers can be used.

It's because Nvidia has better Linux support apparently.
That's what I read anyway.
