Yes but you need a compatible monitor as well.

I haven't played BF3; when I played BFBC2, it felt like I was forcing myself through kinda like watching a boring movie...so was BF3 single player campaign the same?

Is 3GB considered enough VRAM for x1440? The thought of it not being is leaning me toward 290X.

I'm finding 2GB is not enough at 1080, so that's one reason for wanting to upgrade, but then I don't want to buy a 3GB card if I'll have the same problem. I'm likely to be upgrading monitors imminently.

Don't want to make the mistake of buying a card that is going to struggle again once the AA etc is kicked in

BF3 single player campaign; i got 10 minutes in, fell asleep, woke up 2 hours later and found i had completed it in my sleep.

I have 2 of the MSI Gaming ed's and they are excellent cards. Both overclock to 1250mhz easily and for me they are super quiet as well

Sounds good, MSI do take quite a while with their RMA's though (my GTX 680 took a month to get back to me 18 months into the warranty). I've just seen the Zotac AMP! edition for £420 on another website, a pretty killer price for one of the fastest factory OC 780's, which would you folks recommend? I do like the idea of a 5 year warranty (with a UK RMA base I think?).

That won't become compatible I'm 99% sure of it. Don't even think Hazro was one of their partners for G-Sync.

Its double the performance. Quite a jump really! Just had a quick go of the single player and @1400p,780 sli is sssmmmmoootttthhhhhh

On a side note though,its a pity the single player seems like the usual man shooty, on rails nonsense carried over from BF3

Was it too much to hope for a "proper" BF game?
